The legend of the Black-Eyed Children first surfaced in the late 1990s, when a Texas journalist named Brian Bethel claimed he encountered two strange boys outside his car at night. The Legend of the Banshee 👁️‍🗨️

The Banshee comes from Irish and Celtic folklore, a ghostly woman believed to appear before a death occurs in a family. Her name comes from the Gaelic word “bean sídhe” (pronounced “ban-shee”), meaning “woman of the fairy mound.”

She isn’t a killer—she’s a harbinger, a messenger of death. Her mournful wail, or keening, is said to be heard in the dead of night near the homes of those about to die.

Descriptions of her vary:

Sometimes she appears as a young woman with long silver hair, combing it as she weeps.

Other times she’s an old, haggard crone, her eyes red from endless crying.

Her cry is said to be so chilling that it freezes the blood of anyone who hears it.

According to myth, each ancient Irish family had its own Banshee who would mourn their dead. When several Banshees wailed together, it meant someone of great importance had died.
