The 2026 International Black Theatre Festival, presented by NC Black Rep, brought three compelling performances to Winston-Salem, from Wynton Marsalis’ "A Fiddler’s Tale" starring Phylicia Rashad to Perri Gaffney’s "Just Me," and Quaz Degraft’s "In the Black."

CVNC critic Lynn Felder praises the productions’ explorations of integrity and authenticity, calling "Just Me" “a one-woman comedic tour-de-force that entertains and inspires us to reexamine the rich material of our own personal histories and life lessons.”

After its recent name change, it could be said that this year’s event was the “second” International Black Theatre Festival, but under any name it was a rousing success and a passionate celebration of Black theatre both past, present, and future.
