It really is shame that the same month I discovered this band Telltale I also learned that they’re calling it quits. But, listen, I get it. They’ve been at it for almost 10 years and it is grueling out there for musicians.

In a lot of ways it seems like you have to forsake all else to get your music out there. And no matter what your measure of success may be, if you’re not seeing enough forward momentum relative to the joys of life you want to live, hard decisions have to be made.

So while my heart breaks at this news, because these guys are JUST SO good, I respect the hell out of the fact that they gave us so much and are doing what’s best for their lives, loved ones, and future projects.

The silver lining: there music lives on…

Go stream my top 5 favorite songs. Drop your favs in the comments. And if you have time in Dec, hit up their farewell show in Richmond, VA.

Heads up! Next session is this Thursday at 7:15 pm at Athena Stationery & Cafe ✍️ join us after the music to hang with Liam Pendergrass a bit at Joyner’s WS

This one is gonna be a cozy one guys. And if you haven’t had a chance to check out this new spot, here’s your chance. Be warned: Athena Stationery is quirky and oh so fun. So, act accordingly. If you hate paper and beautiful spaces, this one’s not for you. RSVP 🔗 in bio.

Olympic Blvd opened for Congress at thepyrle‬ in Greensboro, NC and I had the honor of being their first interview.

This 6-piece band outta Statesboro, Georgia is just starting to get their footing. I mean, they’re still finishing out college (Shoutout )! But trust, the talent is there.

And if I had to pick one thing that stood out to me about this group, it’s the natural ease and kindness that seems to connect them as friends. The more I learn about the ins and outs of the industry the more critical this seems for predicting the longevity of a band as they deal with the conflicts, challenges, and general grind of it all.

If you’re smart you’ll keep an eye on these guys. I’m looking forward to their next single, hopefully coming the fall of 2026✨

Backstage with Congress ✨

The CliffsNotes:
• You definitely don’t want to road trip with these guys… and you really don’t want any of them dating your sister.
• Their playlists are all over the map (in the best way): The Backseat Lovers The Strokes Pantera Mt. Joy NO CIGAR TURNSTILE Cage The Elephant ATCQ
• Their advice for up-and-coming bands? Trust the process, you won’t get there overnight. And fighting is normal. The trick is learning how to communicate… and how to yell at each other respectfully. 😅

In case you missed it, their debut EP is streaming everywhere, and it’s ridiculously good. “Casanova” “Don’t Let Me Down” and “Just Because” are my favs.

🎙️ Kay Marion and her fantastic band performing her original “Soul Speak” | The only thing better than listening to Kay perform is experiencing her warm personality. A chat with her leaves you feeling as cozy as the slippers she’s wearing in this session. Isn’t it fun when talented humans are also excessively kind?

This single called “Sweetest Ache” by made me fall in love with her as an artist. She’s one of the artists who opened my eyes to how abundant the local talent scene really is.

I harassed Tori about Soul Sessions for almost 2 years and we finally found an opening in her schedule. Guys…it was worth the wait. Check out her full session on our YouTube channel and make sure to subscribe so you never miss a beat.

Next up for Soul Sessions: on June 22 at the Community Clubhouse.

Coming to us from Abby found her true love for performing in college at

Equal parts powerhouse vocals, heartbreak, grit, and “how is she not already everyone’s favorite artist?” Catch her now so you can brag that you knew her “back when.”

A lot of marketing gurus urge new artists to focus on pushing singles over albums. And I get it — there’s something freeing about experimenting with your sound without feeling confined to one genre or vibe for an entire project. Not to mention, singles can create more opportunities to get in front of new listeners.

But part of me feels like we’re losing the art of listening to albums. and I talked about how hearing a great single and then diving into the full album can feel like this really rewarding hunt for music — discovering songs that end up feeling like hidden gems.

I also think there’s something special about sitting with a full project over time. Sometimes the tracks you skip at first become the ones you love most after a few listens. There’s a kind of beauty in letting an album unfold slowly instead of only chasing the immediate hit.

Thoughts?
