In January 2010, a/perture cinema opened as a small two-screen art house cinema with the purpose of showcasing independent, foreign, documentary, local and festival films. a/perture quickly became a destination for non-commercial and artistic films that were not offered elsewhere in Winston-Salem and the surrounding communities. Located in the heart of downtown Winston-Salem, a/perture revived the

theatrical experience in the central business district. Over the past eleven years, a/perture has become a space to enjoy and celebrate art on film while fostering social capital and shared experiences. a/perture provides the community a home for more than 4,000 film screenings and events per year. a/perture’s mission is to engage and entertain the community through the art of film by showcasing informative, educational, thought-provoking and inspiring films – films that enrich lives, engage minds, promote diversity and build community.

Turns out our movie equipment and cats have something really important in common: they HATE getting wet 🐈‍⬛ CatVideo Fest has been postponed due to weather, and cat lovers and cats alike aren’t pleased with the decision. BUT, the show will go on!

Join us tomorrow at 6pm at Tanglewood Park for a drier and more pleasant CatVideo Fest experience! Festivities will begin at 6pm and the show will start at dark. As always, tickets benefit our friends at Forsyth Humane 🐾

Last year, local filmmaker Angus MacLachlan debuted a film that would become one of our best attended films of the year. A LITTLE PRAYER hosted multiple sold-out showings, full of locals who couldn’t wait to see our city on film.

This September, Angus returns to celebrate the anniversary of his incredible film with us. Join us on September 3rd for a screening of the film, reception, and post-film Q&A.

The film follows a loving father who grapples with how to protect his daughter-in-law when he discovers that his son is having an affair. It’s a senstitive and searching portrait of Southern family that resonated with hundreds of audience members at our cinema last year.
