In Pursuit of Justice

In Pursuit of Justice Educating society about the costs of wrongful conviction to promote reform. The science is irrefutable. Since 2000, there have been 263 DNA based exonerations.

In Pursuit of Justice

There’s no question that DNA testing has irreversibly changed the criminal justice system. The sight of someone walking out of prison after having their innocence proven by DNA evidence is no longer uncommon. But how do you prove your innocence when there is no DNA? How do you “prove” innocence? Greg Taylor had spent nearly 17 years in prison when a three-judge panel found,

by “clear and convincing” evidence, that he was not guilty of the first degree murder of Jacquetta Thomas. Greg would never have been declared innocent if not for the creation of a unique North Carolina state agency empowered to examine post-conviction claims of innocence. It is this process that sets Greg’s story apart from other exonerations. In Pursuit of Justice exposes the costs, human and otherwise, of wrongful convictions, primarily through the production and distribution of a full length documentary about Greg Taylor's case. Your support is needed so that we may promote the value of the NC Center on Actual Innocence and duplicate their success in other states.

4 years ago, we were thrilled to have our independent doc, In Pursuit of Justice, included in the 20th annual RiverRun International Film Festival - viewed by "sold out" audiences giving the film standing ovations. The cherry on top was receiving the "Audience Choice Award." Wow - we remain grateful for all the support folks in the Triad and beyond gave our film - in its production stage and thru 18 months of film festival success. But, RiverRun started it all for us....thanks for the confidence in the importance of this unique criminal justice story. Watch for our next post - great news for the film. The timing could not be more perfect or important! Gregg Jamback and Jamie Huss/filmmakers, producers

A question we get so often after folks have watched our doc, In Pursuit of Justice, is "WHAT HAPPENED TO DEAVER ?" For fans of the Netflix series "The Staircase", you know the updated version of it shows how GREG TAYLOR's case in our film was the catalyst to reexamine Michael Peterson's NC murder conviction...all due to SBI Agent Deaver's actions. And, yet another NC case - Kirk Turner in Winston-Salem - was also impacted by Deaver. Here's a recent summary to answer that burning question.....

Netflix’s ‘The Staircase’ follows a true-crime that went through several twists of turns, and continues to be a bizarre mystery to everyone. Did Michael Peterson kill his wife, or was a random owl the real perpetrator? Everyone remains divided on Peterson’s innocence, but there is one thing ...

The story told in our award-winning doc, IN PURSUIT OF JUSTICE, highlights not only the precedent-setting case of Greg Taylor, but also explains a groundbreaking legal process STILL found ONLY in NC. The unique "NC Innocence Inquiry Commission" process has recently moved 2 more NC cases towards the 3-judge panel stage - quite an accomplishment to get that far! This recent news clip below includes 2 attorneys also shown in our film - Chris Mumma & Mark Rabil. Each are representing separate clients from one high profile case involving multiple youths convicted of murdering the grandfather of basketball star Chris Paul. Thru filming Greg Taylor's story, we came to deeply appreciate the toll the search for justice takes on all involved - the victim's family, the accused/convicted & their families, and the legal reps (& their families). We shall watch all cases carefully; glad our film remains relevant by explaining this important NC legal process. Wish other states would make the same reform happen! The "V" shut down many a spring film festival this year...including the esteemed RiverRun International Film Festival here in W-S. Such a hard economic hit on many cities & disappointment to many dedicated filmmakers. What a year we had in 2018 with the premiere of our doc, the gratifying award this important story won, & folks who still remember it! From David Swift post 💜: "This photo popped up in my FB memories today. It’s the photo of the tickets I bought for In Pursuit of Justice to River Run 2018. Makes me miss the bustling city, all my friends. Great film & so cool to know the filmmakers. Everyone should check out this film." RiverRun WILL be back! We've got good news ASAP for those who have NOT seen the film. Remaining grateful, Gregg Jamback & Jamie Huss/filmmakers
