A common conundrum: do I add my artist name and album title to my cover art? Or leave it without?

Answer: it depends on a few factors

1. Are you only releasing digital or physical + digital? Having album title/artist name on digital releases becomes an aesthetic choice, since most listeners pay more attention to the information provided by the platform. Physical releases, however, need to present that information when the item is in someone's hands.

2. Is there copious negative space in the artwork? If so, adding some text can balance out the design creating a less tension in the emotional impact of the artwork.

3. Are you releasing part of an ongoing series that uses the same artwork? If so, it would make sense to differentiate the releases with text.

At the end of the day, it's all about feel and impact. In the next few weeks we'll talk about some strategies for adding text to album artwork and even how to create your own album artwork when you don't have a budget to license mine 😜

Soooooo, remember I said I'd launch an Etsy shop in February? Yep, did that. It's a small thing but it's a start for me to build on. I'm riddled with a lot of self-doubt which leads me to procrastinate—especially on personal goals. On top of that, I'm an introvert, so putting myself "out there" is always a challenge.

But this is cool, and I'm proud of the work. Eight collage designs touching Indigenous American, Nepali, Maōri, Japanese and, of course, cultures across the African Diaspora.
