The City of Winona has been informed by the project contractor that the Bob Welch Aquatic Center is not yet ready to open. While the City had hoped to welcome swimmers beginning Wednesday, June 17, the contractor has indicated that additional time is required before the facility can safely open to the public.
This project includes the largest mechanical equipment replacement effort since the Aquatic Center first opened in 1990. Upgrades include new heaters, chemical controllers, and a modern high efficiency water filtration system. Although construction crews have made substantial progress, the contractor must complete final installation work, conduct system testing, finalize safety checks and inspections prior to opening.
The Levee Park water feature is closed during Steamboat Days; however, the Lake Lodge Recreation Center remains open as alternative water based recreation option for the community.
The City of Winona will issue an updated announcement and confirm an official opening date as soon as the contractor provides clearance that the facility is ready.
