Today, we say goodbye to an old piece of Winona Lake Park. 💛

The old restroom building is coming down. And while it is certainly old, tired, and in desperate need of replacement… watching it come down is a little bittersweet for several reasons.

For those who remember, this building was home to the Winona Lake Park concession stand. Stopping by on a hot summer day to buy a lolly for 5¢ or grab a push-up. Those simple moments became memories for so many families over the years, myself included. Eventually, the concession stand was converted into a family restroom, continuing to serve the park in a different way.

And then there are the butterflies. 🦋

This ol’ building became home to a beautiful piece of interactive art and a collection of butterfly murals that have brought color, honor, meaning and memories to the park. I’ll be honest, my heart is a little broken knowing these particular butterflies will disappear with the building.

But don’t worry… the butterflies aren’t going away. 🦋

There is a plan to keep their presence within Winona Lake Limitless Park in a new way, and I can’t wait to share more about that very soon!

As bittersweet as it is to say goodbye, we are also incredibly excited for what comes next. The removal of this building marks another step toward completing the Limitless Park project and making way for a brand-new restroom facility.

The new restrooms will be more modern, user-friendly and thoughtfully designed to meet the needs of the people who use our park. Including the resources and features necessary to reflect the vision of Winona Lake Limitless Park.

So today, we remember what this little building has meant to our community and we say goodbye to a few pieces of its history.

Sometimes progress means saying goodbye to something old, even when it holds a lot of memories.

And sometimes… those memories just take a new form. 🦋💛

More on the butterflies coming soon!
