The Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas
A Pickers Paradise, 1972 - Present
Held for five days the which include the 3rd weekend of September each year, it features family friendly entertainment on four stages simultaneously, a large juried arts and crafts fair, workshops, and acoustic instrument contests. What began in 1972 with 10 acts and two contests now boasts 30 to 40 acts and eight contests. Along with the flagship National Flat Pick Guitar Championships and the International Finger Style Guitar Championships, the Walnut Valley Festival hosts the International Autoharp, National Mountain Dulcimer, National Hammered Dulcimer, National Bluegrass Banjo, National Mandolin and the Walnut Valley Old Time Fiddle Championships. Although locals often refer to the Festival simply as "bluegrass", it has never been JUST bluegrass. It now is a blend of all kinds of acoustic music: bluegrass, folk, old-time country, a little bit cowboy, some Irish, blues, Cajun, jazz and more; and the bluegrass is both traditional and progressive.

Walnut Valley Association and the Redford Family would like to thank its Staff and Crew for all of their hard work at our 54th Walnut Valley Festival.

We appreciate the support of several community organizations, including the Winfield Chamber of Commerce, the Winfield Arts & Humanities Council, Scout Troop 318, 4-H, Walnut Valley Farmers Market, Winfield Masonic Lodge #110, Kiwanis Club, the K&O Steam and Gas Engine Club, Lions Club, ESA, Tisdale Youth Group, and First Baptist Church, which each year provides a venue for our Wednesday Workshops. Many of our concessions and vendors are local, and we thank you as well.

We would not be able to do what we do without the assistance of the City of Winfield and Cowley County and the first responders who make sure our festival-goers are taken care of over the days of festival. Thank you to the officers and staff of Cowley County Emergency Management, Cowley County Sheriff Department, Winfield Police Department, Winfield Fire/EMS and William Newton Hospital.

And finally, thank YOU. Whether you are a fan from far away or from right here in Winfield, your presence makes our small fairgrounds a magical place one weekend every year. We look forward to seeing you all again in 2027.

The Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield Kansas was a fine place to be last week!! Glad to be a part of it once again this year. It was so good to catch up with so many old friends and to play for one of my favorite audiences.
