We are preparing for frost sometime soon here at the Homestead! W**d eated all the garden back down besides a few things. Picked pumpkins and threw all vines into the compost. The hubby built flower beds along the bottom of the greenhouse, we filled them all with soil, and got the herbs in before we lose them! Hoping this will help me keep herbs a little longer this year!

🌻 A few seed-saving tips from Haitz Herbal Homestead 🌻

There’s something special about saving a little piece of this year’s garden for next year! 🌱

Here are a few basics to keep in mind:

🍂 Let seeds mature on the plant before collecting.
☀️ Gather on a dry day whenever possible.
🌬️ Make sure seeds are completely dry before storing.
✍️ Label with the plant name and year—you may not remember later!
📦 Keep them somewhere cool, dry, and out of direct sunlight.

Every plant is a little different, and learning when its seeds are ready takes patience and practice. Gathering, cleaning, and packaging seeds is part of the work we love here on the homestead. 💚

Have you tried saving seeds from your garden? What’s your favorite flower to save? 🌼
