Collect all your dads and celebrate Father’s Day at the Winchendon Winds Band Concert "Ahoy!" on Sunday, June 21, at 2:00 p.m. at the UU Church of Winchendon, 126 Central Street.

Conductor Dr. Lindsay Bronnenkant (UMass Amherst Music Faculty) takes us to the "high seas." Hum along to medleys from the popular movie series “Pirates of the Caribbean” and the Broadway musical “South Pacific.” The familiar “Russian Sailor’s Dance” begins as a ponderous thematic statement and accelerates into a frenzied finale. “Molly on the Shore” and “Folk Song Suite” showcase Irish and British folk tunes with a nautical flair. The program will close with Sousa’s rousing “Hands Across the Sea” and a delightful piccolo solo.

Concerts are free, thanks to generous grants and donations, including those from the Winchendon Cultural Council. ADA accessible, family-friendly, refreshments sold.

What a season opener! Wonderful to have over 150 attend our first concert of the season. We were treated to great lineup of patriotic music marking America's 250th anniversary. The verses of Billings' war hymn Chester filled the sanctuary. Topping it all off was a performance by a revolutionary war-era octet in historic garb. See pictures here and program notes. See you this Sunday at 2 p.m. for "Over the Hills and Through the Woods."
