The arts have always helped us explore what it means to be human.

At Delaware Theatre Company, we believe stories help us feel less alone. On stage, we see joy, grief, fear, resilience, hope, and the complicated middle places we do not always know how to name.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we recognize the importance of care, connection, and conversation, on stage and off.

THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE
September 16 - October 4, 2026

Music & Lyrics by William Finn
Book by Rachel Sheinkin
Conceived by Rebecca Feldman

A New Light Theatre production presented by DTC

Winner of the Tony® and Drama Desk Awards for Best Book, THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE is a charming and deeply human musical that shines a light on the inner lives of six adolescents vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime. As they candidly share hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, these tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping to avoid the soul-crushing “ding” of the bell that signals a mistake. Blending humor and heart, the show is a joyful celebration of individuality, belonging, and the courage to be seen.

🎭 TAP 2 Performance

The Totally Awesome Players (TAP) Program, established in 1992, and the newer TAP 2 ensemble, founded in 2012, employ acting skills and the creation of a play to increase the collaborative skills and active creativity of adults with intellectual disabilities. These troupes meet weekly, and participants create, write, rehearse, and perform a play. These original plays are presented on the main stage of the Delaware Theatre Company.
