‘Scalia/Ginsburg’ composer-librettist Derrick Wang has written a new musical drama: FEARLESS, receiving its world premiere May 16 & 18, 2025 at OperaDelaware.

Happy to share a new project: I’ve composed a new musical drama, FEARLESS, inspired by the life of American pilot Hazel Ying Lee of the Women Airforce Pilots of WWII.

10 years after its world premiere at the Castleton Festival, Scalia/Ginsburg returns to Virginia as one of the most-performed contemporary operas in the United States.

This production includes a post-performance panel discussion with family and colleagues of U.S. Supreme Court Justices Ginsburg and Scalia, the figures who inspired this opera.

A few tickets still remain for this nearly sold-out production at the Town Hall Theater in Middlebury, VT — with performances on October 4, 5 & 6, 2024 (just before the start of the new Supreme Court term).

Many thanks to Iowa’s Riverside Theatre for confirming that Derrick Wang’s Scalia/Ginsburg belongs not only in the opera house but also on the theatrical stage!

The final shows of this nearly sold-out 8-performance run are: Friday, September 13 (7:30pm CT, hosted by The University of Iowa College of Law), Saturday, September 14 (7:30pm CT), and Sunday March 17 (2pm CT).
