The Delaware Art Museum is a private, not-for-profit arts organization. It is supported by earned and contributed income and is not owned or controlled by the State of Delaware. The Museum is best known for its large collection of British Pre-Raphaelite art, works by Wilmington-native Howard Pyle and fellow American illustrators, and urban landscapes by John Sloan and his circle.

Dive into this week's Sculpture Garden Happy Hour: Teacher Appreciation Night!

🍎 As the school year comes to a close, we're celebrating the educators who teach and inspire young minds every day. Teachers will receive a free drink and discounts on DelArt Memberships when they sign up during Teacher Appreciation Night (please bring your teaching credentials or school ID).

Here's what's happening this Thursday at :
✍️ 4:00 - 4:30: Arrive early to join Sen. Dan Cruce and Rep. Mara Gorman for the ceremonial signing of Senate Bill 260, establishing the Delaware Certificate of Arts Excellence for high school students.

Join us on Sunday, June 14, for Family Pride Day, a celebration of LGBTQ+ families, community, and connection. Start the morning with a Remembrance and Recognition Walk around the museum, honoring community stories and experiences. Then, enjoy a mix of self-guided and structured activities for all ages, including a collaborative Pride & Ally Wall, hands-on artmaking, story time and play, and a variety of local vendors.

☕️ Kaffeina will open early at 10:00 am with refreshments for the whole family.

More details are coming soon, so stay tuned and join us for a day of pride, reflection, creativity, and community!

The Pre-Raphaelites 🤝 Greek Mythology

Persephone's annual reemergence from the underworld heralded the arrival of spring. In "The Spring Witch," George Wilson pictures Persephone stepping out from a dark, cave-like opening as branches bud and green shoots emerge around her. Her body is encircled by a pale, mist-like ribbon that seems to emanate from the fruit in her raised hand, suggesting that spring is not merely unfolding around her, but is conjured by her.

The painting’s title deepens this ambiguity: “Spring” associates her with seasonal renewal, but “Witch” makes her stranger and more powerful. She is not a passive emblem of nature’s return, but an uncanny agent who moves between worlds. Wilson paints spring as beautiful and erotic, but it is also mysterious, rising from darkness and arriving as a kind of spell.

📸 Citizen Photographer offered Delawareans the opportunity to explore civic engagement and creative expression through photography.

Today, we are highlighting Kent County resident Gary Knox, whose photograph "Liberty and Justice for All" was selected for display in the Citizen Artist exhibition through the blind jurying process of the Citizen Photographer initiative. Out of hundreds of submissions, Gary's photo was the only work from a Kent County resident chosen for the installation. Congratulations!

Citizen Artist celebrates artists as advocates while reflecting on past federal initiatives that supported working artists and public art. Join a guided tour of Citizen Artist with a DelArt Gallery Leader every Saturday at 1:00 pm. No two tours are the same, just like the artworks themselves.

Andre' Wright, Jr. (Color Of Life Branding) is an accomplished photographer and filmmaker, skilled at capturing an individual's personality in still and moving images.

Wright Jr.'s images are featured in Living Indigenous at , highlighting contemporary Indigenous identities. He was also a juror for the Citizen Photographer installation in Citizen Artist, and a videographer and producer of a documentary surrounding the exhibition.

Wright Jr. exemplifies what it means to be a Citizen Artist. A Wilmington local, he was recently spotlighted as one of Delaware’s Most Influential and Inspiring Individuals in the Arts and continues to document his communities with intention and care.
