On Monday, The Delaware Contemporary had the pleasure of hosting and welcoming the Sweden Delegation and the City of Wilmington for a morning of conversation, connection, and cultural exchange. 🇸🇪🇺🇸

The visit brought together artists, arts and cultural leaders, community partners, and members of the delegation for meaningful dialogue, shared perspectives, and an opportunity to explore how creativity and culture can strengthen and connect communities across borders.

We’re grateful to everyone who joined us, shared their insights, and helped make the morning such a meaningful experience.

It was an honor to open our doors, share our creative community, and be part of an international exchange centered on art, culture, and connection.

Art, cocktails, and connection. 🥃🎨

Yesterday’s Art & Cocktail Pairing brought together creativity, conversation, and craft in such a fun way. We were proud to spotlight The Delaware Contemporary Studio Artists — Rebecca Howell , Cony Madariaga , and 🅜🅘🅢🅒🅔🅛™️ alongside local artist Shonté Young-Williams pairing their work with thoughtfully crafted cocktails! 🍸

A special thank you to Maker's Mark and Total W**e & More Delaware for collaborating with us to create an experience that offered guests another way to engage with and celebrate art!! 🎉

We loved sharing the work of these artists with the community and seeing art experienced in a whole new way. Cheers to a successful evening! 🥃✨

Travel photography has long shaped how we understand people, place, culture, memory, and movement. This exhibition looks beyond the picturesque, inviting viewers to consider how photography can act as both witness and translator—and how every image carries perspective, bias, longing, and power. 📷

Featuring works by Sally Canzoneri, Alexandra Duprey, Steven Edson, Prescott Moore Lassman, Jenee Mateer, Matt Mele, Melissa Sutherland Moss, JP Terlizzi, Loannis Vastarkous, and Ava Hassinger.

ABOUT GRETCHEN HUPFEL (1963–2002)
Born in Wilmington, Delaware, Gretchen Hupfel graduated magna cm laude with a BA from Brown University and earned an MFA from the University of Delaware. A conceptually oriented artist, she taught at the Kansas City Art Institute and the University of Georgia in Athens. Her work was shown in more than 30 exhibitions in galleries and alternative spaces from New York to Atlanta from 1989–2002. Her work is held in numerous collections, including the Delaware Art Museum, High Museum of Art, American Century, Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, Citibank, Philip Morris, and Sprint. Her work received reviews in Artforum, Art in America, The New Art Examiner, and Art Papers, among other publications. Time Spent, a posthumous retrospective of her work, was organized at The Delaware Contemporary in 2005.

THE GRETCHEN HUPFEL ENDOWMENT FUND
An endowment initiated by a close friend of the Hupfel family was established in Gretchen Hupfel’s name to underwrite a biennial symposium and curatorial position at The Delaware Contemporary. For those who remember Gretchen, this named endowment furthers the legacy of a passionate and remarkably talented artist and not only commemorates her death, but celebrates her life.
