I had the honor to work with nationally and internationally known mural artist, Kyle Holbrook. He does monumental work both mural painting and in community education with the arts. His passion and skill with youth and community is POWERFUL. I have been doing murals for almost 30 years, and I still want to learn and grow! So, I put myself with the ones I need to be with! I spent a day with him not making a magnificent mural, but just learning, listening, and exercising to be better at my craft. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 I am so grateful for this opportunity!!!

School Mural Project complete…
When lunch time came around and students were eating together the excitement was in the air! Students as young as kindergarten were connecting and discussing about the new art piece.

Legacy Mural Project with 4th grade art club.

Inspired by the “drip” art style of artist Jenn Stark

Painting to honor the school wide initiative, Leader in Me, Tree of Habits, Habit #7, SYNERGY, “Together is Better.”

The first forms of human markings tens of thousands of years ago humans made their marks on cave walls. These cave paintings are reminiscent of our now evolved murals paintings. To paint on the wall is part of our art history then and now. Our legacy will continue with time growing like tree rings, each year the art club will carry on by adding a ring of color and design to make their mark and grow the mural. This mural project culminates students working together with their present school culture and connecting with each other past, present, and future to make one brilliant form of synergy.

Starting with discussion of school values and culture these fourth graders were assigned letters to design with symbols pertaining to the project's theme. Technical skills included: preliminary sketches helping in brainstorming ideas followed by custom color mixing from a limited palette, as well as learning to utilize different paint brushes and artist’s tools. These fourth graders were able to collaboratively and cooperatively create a legacy project in their school cafeteria for all to enjoy now and in years to come.

The Mindfulness Mural Project will be going up at UNCW Randall Retreat and be available for for students to practice mindfulness through the arts.

Working on a mindfulness mural project at the UNCW Randall Retreat. Students and staff will soon be able to take a break, practice mindfullness, and find joy in the present by participating in wellness through the arts. The final product will be digitally archived by UNCW and on public display.

The creation of art brings people together. We like this example of how Jose from Brella Home Improvement can work with his customers to create what's in their heart and mind. It's a team effort. It's a brand new beginning for many of us, and a time of fresh starts. The new school year is upon us, and so is a fresh new place for Creative Geniuses.

*Big news* our art program has relocated to Wilmington, NC!

After 8 wonderful years in and around Des Moines, IA 🥶 serving thousands of students and their families 💝, we have moved to the beach! 🏄🏽‍♀️ 🌊 ☀️ 🌺 Our new location of warm sunshine, the fresh breeze, & cleansing ocean waves have inspired us to refresh, renew, and revive our program.

🙏🏽 It is with so much Gratitude to all the schools, their staff, community centers, libraries, social organizations, students, kids, city recreation supports, and families that have supported this program from the moment it started. We have connnected through the love of creativity & maintained so many fulfilling relationships. We watched our children grow over the years, new sibling babies being born and them growing. It's been amazing the program has attracted and connected such great people. We look forward to taking the next steps as a registered business of North Carolina and sharing with you the exciting creative opportunities and experiences we have ahead.

A significant part of being an artist and running a business is staying active with professional organizations and opportunities to learn and grow. This past May, our founder, Gina, applied and was accepted into WILMA Leadership Program. WILMA is a woman's leadership initiative that provides training and resources to develop woman leaders in and around Wilmington, NC. WILMA’s 2023 Leadership Institute, an annual nine-month program, gives area women the opportunity to learn from leaders in the region, visit a range of local companies, and serve as each others’ personal board of directors.
