🎤 From Warhol to Bowie, Cherry Vanilla has stories to tell.

Wednesday, September 16 | 6–7 PM | Virtual + FREE

Punk performer, Warhol Superstar, actress, musician, writer, DJ, and legendary fixture of New York’s 1960s and ’70s underground scene, Cherry Vanilla has lived a life that sounds almost too wild to be true.

Join CAM for a lively, unfiltered conversation about her joyously madcap life, from gaining notoriety as a rock ’n’ roll groupie and starring in Andy Warhol’s Pork to crossing paths and working with icons including David Bowie, Stewart Copeland, Tim Burton, and Vangelis.

Cherry will take us inside the art, music, glamour, rebellion, and excess that shaped her famously unconventional life.

Turns out they knew exactly where they were going. 🦆👀

The ducks have made their way into With a Southern Accent: Sporting Art and Fine Art of Eastern North Carolina, opening September 19 at CAM.

At the heart of the exhibition is an extraordinary collection of Southern duck decoys collected by Bruce B. Cameron, displayed alongside work by celebrated Southern artists including John Beerman, Scott Avett, Beverly McIver, Thomas Sayre, Damian Stamer, Bob Timberlake, and more.

Wildlife. Art. Southern tradition. And a whole lot of ducks.

Special thanks to guest curator Robbie Smith for letting his decoys make the journey.

Thank you, Benny Hill, for kicking off Season 16 of Jazz at CAM in unforgettable style. 🎷

Joined by longtime collaborators Brad Merritt, Doug Irving, and Isreal Bannerman, Benny filled CAM with familiar favorites, unexpected selections, and the kind of energy that makes live jazz so special.

And the music doesn’t stop there. This fall, get schooled by Benny during his four-week Jazz Appreciation class, Sundays, October 18 through November 8. Explore the music, history, and artists that have shaped jazz with one of Wilmington’s own.

Mary’s Art Explorers is all about helping our youngest visitors make connections with art. This Thursday, we’ll meet Andy Warhol through Little People, Big Dreams: Andy Warhol, make colorful collages inspired by his work, and finish the morning exploring his iconic Silver Clouds at CAM.

Pop art, story time, and floating Silver Clouds? Sounds like a pretty great morning. ☁️✨

This month’s Mary’s Art Explorers is all about Andy Warhol! We’ll read Little People, Big Dreams: Andy Warhol, make our own magazine collages inspired by his art, then head into the galleries to experience CAM’s interactive Silver Clouds.

Mary’s Art Explorers is designed for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, with older siblings welcome to join in the fun.

History has often placed Anna Murray Douglass in the shadow of her husband. This September, we’re bringing her remarkable life and legacy to the forefront.

Join scholars Dr. Celeste M. Bernier and Dr. Bill E. Lawson for a special Lunchtime Lecture exploring Anna Murray Douglass as a freedom fighter, educator, activist, intellectual, artist, strategist, and co-revolutionary in the struggle for liberation and equality.

Drawing from more than one hundred surviving letters, essays, speeches, biographies, and memorials, Bernier and Lawson will offer a deeper look at Anna’s life and the extraordinary legacy of the Douglass family.
