TIM School of Dance Dress Code
We have noticed some dancers are attending class in inappropriate dance attire. Parents, please make sure your dancer is properly dressed out for dance class.
Attire & Shoe Requirements
The following clothing and shoe requirements apply to all dancers at Techniques In Motion, including both our Recreational and Company programs.
Please make sure your dancer arrives to class in the appropriate attire and shoes. Proper dance attire is an important part of dance training because it allows instructors to clearly see the dancer’s alignment, placement, and technique and provide appropriate corrections.
Just as a dancer wouldn’t attend hockey practice without skates, swim class without a swimsuit, or soccer practice without cleats, proper dance attire and shoes are an essential part of dance class. *If the students dress like dancers, they will feel like dancers, act like dancers & perform like dancers!!! Dancers work harder & stay more focused when properly dressed for class.
Lyrical & Ballet classes of all ages need to have leotard & tights or leggings. The t-shirts & shorts that are being worn are not acceptable.
Dress Code
Leotards and tights of any color and style are required for ballet and technique classes.
Underwear is not necessary with leotards and tights.
Tap & Jazz students may wear jazz pants over their leotard and tights.
Hip-Hop students may wear jazz pants over a leotard or shorts and a T-shirt.
Jeans, revealing clothing, and clothing that restricts movement are not acceptable.
Hair must be secured away from the face and pulled back appropriately for class.
Excessive jewelry should not be worn to class for safety reasons.
Male dancers should wear loose-fitting clothing for most dance classes to allow for stretching and movement.
Male ballet dancers should wear form-fitting pants and a sleeveless tank or appropriate fitted dancewear.
Adult students should wear comfortable clothing that allows for movement.
ACRO CLASS DRESS CODE
For safety and ease of movement, dancers should come dressed in comfortable, form-fitting athletic/dancewear.
Dancers may wear any tight-fitting athletic or dance clothing that allows for full range of motion.
Girls MUST wear a sports bra or dance top underneath any loose-fitting shirt.
No tights — please wear athletic shorts, leggings, bike shorts, or other appropriate dancewear.
Loose or oversized clothing should be avoided unless a fitted top is worn underneath.
Hair should be pulled back and secured away from the face.
Please make sure clothing is secure and appropriate for tumbling, inversions, and partner work.
Safety first! Proper-fitting clothing helps instructors safely spot dancers and allows dancers to move freely during acro training.
Shoe Requirements
Dancers should arrive with the appropriate shoes for their class. Proper dance shoes provide the support, protection, and traction needed to safely execute movements and allow instructors to teach correct technique.
Please make sure the dancers have the proper & correct color shoes for class & Recital Performances.
Shoe requirements are stated below, and most may be purchased at Dance Exchange (4406 Wrightsville Avenue, Wilmington, NC 28403; #793-3116), or online. All shoes should be clearly marked with child’s first and last names and should not be worn outside the studio.
