The Delaware Symphony Orchestra mourns the passing of Gerret Copeland -- one of Delaware's most respected civic leaders, philanthropists, and advocates for the cultural life of our state.
For many years, Mr. and Mrs. Copeland have been among the DSO's most steadfast supporters. The DSO has been privileged to benefit from the friendship, counsel, and remarkable generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Copeland for many years. Their commitment to the arts has left an enduring mark on our organization and on the cultural life of Delaware.
Mr. Copeland's service to Delaware extended across many of the institutions that define our community. Whether through the arts, conservation, education, or philanthropy, he devoted his time, leadership, and resources to causes that enriched the quality of life for countless people throughout our region.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Mr. Copeland will remember a thoughtful and gracious individual whose influence was felt not through recognition sought, but through the lasting impact of his actions. Together, Mr. and Mrs. Copeland have shaped the cultural landscape of Delaware in ways that will endure for generations.
On behalf of our musicians, board of directors, staff, and audiences, we extend our deepest condolences to Mrs. Copeland and the entire Copeland family. We are profoundly grateful for Mr. Copeland's friendship, leadership, and belief in the importance of the arts.
His legacy will live on through the institutions he strengthened, the lives he touched, and the enduring example of generosity and service he leaves behind.
