The idea of a rail trail inches forward. A study has been completed and can be seen at the link below. What do you think about it? Good idea?https://www.wmpo.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Wilmington-Rail-Trail-Master-Plan_October-2020-DRAFT_Spreads.pdf
Wilmington is considering converting the old rail line that once led to Altamont shipping into a walking/biking trail. These have been popping up in communities across the country and have proven quite popular. What do you think about adding one here? Fill out the survey and weigh in on the matter. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WilmingtonRailTrail

WAVE is looking for a new name for the downtown trolley and they want your input.
The free downtown trolley is an easy and convenient way to get around downtown Wilmington and the surrounding districts. On October 15, 2018, the trolley route was revised to increase connectivity between the five districts, Central Business, North Waterfront, Brooklyn Arts, Castle Street and South Front, in downtown Wilmington. The trolley has a new route and needs a new name. Wave Transit has opened the community naming contest for the downtown trolley and is looking for YOUR feedback!
Submittals will be accepted March 1-31, 2019 and finalists will be announced in May 2019. Prizes will be awarded to finalists and a grand prize will be awarded to the winner of the naming contest. The winner will be selected by a community vote. A finalized brand will be developed around the name selected by the community. The revised brand will be unveiled with the arrival of the new trolley vehicles in Spring 2019.

Going to the Azalea Festival concerts tonight? Why not take the free trolley? It’s frequent, easy to use, convenient, and totally FREE!

Want a better Wilmington economy? How about a better WAVE bus system? Here's a little step that will help us meet those goals.
WAVE is going to try a different route for the downtown trolley during Azalea Festival. And, you ask, how that helps? The temporary route connects Greenfield Ave. (Big Benny's, Satellite, Harp, Art Space), Castle St.(Rx, Wilmington Wine, Luna, Dan Beck Gallery, antique stores, etc.) the Central Business District, and North Forth (Foxes Boxes, Acme Art, Palette, Bodega and more).
It makes it easy to get around and that should help all four areas succeed and that's good for the economy. The route is designed as a more pedestrian focused path. Putting the bus where the people are as opposed to where the institutions are should make the bus more appealing. And that helps WAVE.
Of course it can't be quite that simple. The blue map shows the route for Monday to Thursday before the street fair. The red map shows the route during the street fair. It's a start. So, help out and ride the trolley during the Azalea Festival!!
Happy Birthday America and Happy Independence Day everyone. We should all be proud to be part of the unique experiment known as the United States and be proud of our efforts to promote democratic governing and a free economy around the globe. It makes for a better world.
Merry Christmas everyone
