Sarah Sheffield Art Studio I am a painter and mixed media beginner tapestry weaver who creates scenes with simplicity and directness I am happy to have you observe me at work.

My studio is located in the artist village at the ArtWorks and open established hours or by appointment. I paint to discover— to fully observe, explore, and connect with the world. I am inspired to capture familiar and intimate moments with simplicity and directness. I particularly like finding beauty in ordinary subjects. I am attracted to all themes but especially those that convey some sense of

mystery or reminiscence. Thus, you will discover vintage architecture and objects, concealed places, shadows and palpable mood as part of my work. I work primarily in metal, oil and watercolor. My artistic goals are to interpret the spirit of the moment, to bring more abstraction into my work, and to use imagery that awakens personal memories in my viewer.

My journey in weaving. Like any art form, it’s steep learning curve and lots of practice. My baby steps goals recently were to practice straight edges, practice an irregular meet and separate technique and doing several items on the loom simultaneously. I found that doing bookmarks was a simple way to practice.

I’m transitioning to tapestry weaving from metal to save my hands and shoulders. Learning new things is stimulating yet challenging. It’s slow going. Here are two samplers of different stitches and techniques. They are purely for my own practice. Circles are the hardest for me. One is a work in progress. Both small.
