Delaware Institute for the Arts in Education

Delaware Institute for the Arts in Education DiAE is a nonprofit organization bringing diverse arts-integrated programming to students and teachers. Delaware Wolf Trap (DWT). Professional Development.

"Inspiring the Artist Within Each Student"

DiAE integrates the arts into Delaware schools to foster a love of learning while enhancing creativity, cultural awareness and respect. Since 1982, we have been partnering with Delaware schools, museums, and other arts and cultural organizations to deliver the following 3 programs:

K-12 Aesthetic Education Residencies. DiAE professional Teaching Artists

lead hands-on workshops in dance, music, theatre, and visual arts. These art making experiences are aligned with Delaware State standards and are creatively integrated into the school curriculum. Residencies in Head Start Centers modeled on early learning through the arts program developed by the Vienna Wolf Trap Institute in Virginia. The program, Early Childhood STEM Learning Through the Arts (Early STEM/Arts), provides arts integrated content with a Wolf Trap teaching artist. We provide arts integrated workshops for Delaware teachers in public, private and charter schools throughout the state. DIAE has reached over 155,000 students and 2,700 educators.

Impact is built by people who choose to show up, believe in the work, and help move it forward.

This Founders Day, we’re proud to recognize Bob Stoddard as our 2026 Impact Award recipient.

As we honor Bob, we’ll also celebrate the larger community behind DiAE — the teaching artists, teachers, partners, supporters, and friends helping us create meaningful arts experiences for students throughout Delaware.

Founders Day is our chance to bring that community together.

This is what creativity in the classroom looks like 💫

It’s students getting the freedom to explore, teachers discovering new ways to connect, and artists bringing their gifts into spaces where they can make a real difference.

But what we love most is the community that forms around it.

Every experience we bring into Delaware classrooms is made possible by people who believe creativity belongs in education — educators, teaching artists, partners, supporters, and friends who continue to show up for our students.

That’s also what we’ll celebrate at Founders Day on September 10th. The people behind the work, the impact we’re making together, and what’s possible when our community continues to invest in creativity.

We’d love for you to be part of it, register for Founders Day and we’ll see you there!

Founders Day isn’t just about celebrating DiAE — it’s about celebrating the community that makes this work possible.

Our teaching artists. Our teacher partners. Our supporters. Our friends. And the many people who believe creativity belongs in every classroom.

On September 10, we’re bringing everyone together at Chancery Market to celebrate the impact we’ve made and the work still ahead.

And yes… we’ll be honoring someone special, too 👀

Registration is officially open. Join us!

✨ There’s something special about making time to learn alongside others who share the same mission!

A few days ago, our Executive Director, A.T., and Artistic Director, Ashley, attended the Wolf Trap Conference. Our Delaware Wolf Trap environments are where our earliest students can engage with the arts while learning!

This trip gave our team a chance to rest, learn, teach, exchange ideas, and continue growing alongside arts educators from across the region. Every conversation, every new perspective, and every shared experience helps shape the work ahead.

Here’s to bringing what we’ve learned back into the classrooms and communities we serve 🥂

One of the greatest gifts of this work is the people we meet along the way 🤍

Who would have thought that a volunteer opportunity with our friends at CSC would lead to new connections, unexpected conversations, and generous helping hands?

It’s a reminder that when people rally around a shared mission, something special happens. The work begins to reach beyond the classroom, creating relationships, inspiring generosity, and building a community of people who simply want to make a difference.

We’re grateful for every person who has crossed our path. You never know where one “yes” or one introduction might lead! 🫂

Summer is here, and that means more opportunities for families to learn, create, and make memories together ☀️🎨

Our Delaware Wolf Trap Family Program at Nemours Estate was filled with creativity, movement, storytelling, and plenty of smiles. It was so special to see children and their families side by side, exploring together, and discovering just how much fun the arts can be.

These moments are what summer is all about—slowing down, spending time together, and making room for imagination to lead the way.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Nemours Estate and helped make the day such a memorable one. We can’t wait for more summer adventures together!

After 10 amazing years, we officially celebrated the retirement of the one and only Elaine Brooks 😢🫂

If you’ve been part of the DiAE community, chances are Elaine played a role in making your experience a bit smoother, a bit brighter and a lot more organized! From keeping everything running behind the scenes to welcoming everyone with warmth (and a really good sense of humor), her impact reaches far beyond our office!

Thank YOU, Elaine, for the care, dedication, and the heart you’ve poured into DiAE over the years. You leave behind a legacy we’ll always be grateful for.

Here’s to your next adventure! 🥂

Yesterday’s “Unearthing a Collage” teen program at Duck Creek Library in Smyrna was nothing short of amazing!

Everyone jumped right in, embraced the creative process, and got to work from the moment they arrived.

A special thank you to our teaching artists, JaQuanne LeRoy and Charlese Annette , for leading the experience with such care, creativity, and encouragement 🫂

We can’t wait to see the finished product and celebrate all the hard work that went into it. Stay tuned! ✨

A bittersweet We Rise Wednesday 💙

This marked our final We Rise Wednesday of the school year 😫 and while it’s hard to see it come to an end, we’re incredibly grateful for all that this year has held!

Over the course of the program, we’ve watched students grow in confidence, creativity, collaboration, and self-expression. We’ve seen them take risks, discover new talents, build relationships, and show up each week ready to learn.

That growth doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because of dedicated educators, committed partners, and students who embrace every opportunity placed in front of them!

Thank you to the Lewis Elementary family for allowing us to be part of this journey. It has been a privilege to learn, create, and grow alongside you this year. We can’t wait to see you again 🙂✨
