Our 19th artist spotlight goes out to artists Meg from . Meg is know for applying her creative abilities to up cycling and sustainable fashion. She works primarily with second hand and vintage clothing and also plays with bedazzle sunglasses, wire wraping, and more! You can find Megan and her work on Instagram .

Meg says she has been creating for two years. She has always had a love for giving new life to things and for mixing the past with now. In her art Meg is inspired most by how her mom and her grandmother dressed. She said “they never left home without a big gold brooch or a beautiful silk scarf, no matter where they were going they always made sure they loved what they wore. It was how they expressed loved the inner self.” In her work she aims to help others also express themselves though wearable art as well.

One of Meg’s biggest motivators is sustainability. It is from others love of her work that inspiration grows. When she gets to see someone who loves what she has made and see the connection they made with it, it helps her know that the clothes she alters are not going into a landfill. This gives her motivation to continue to create.

Most recently Meg has been creating elf ears and Holiday Ornaments for Wubadelics “Not so Silent Night” coming up December 17th. She has also been creating a line of Big Something inspire merchandise and patches. If your looking for a chance to see Meg and her work she will be vending with at Wubadelics “Not so Silent Night” at the Barzarre and then with Krispy Biscuits on the 30th at the LookOut. Two shows you won’t want to miss!

Our 18th artist spotlight goes out to multimedia artist Adam Pupchek. Adam is currently living and working out of Wilmington, NC. He is known for his bold collages. If you're looking to see more of Adam and his work, you can find him on instagram .

Adam has been driven to create his entire life in many different forms. He says he has always found inspiration all around him. People, in particular, have always inspired him. Everyone is so unique and, at different stages of life, have lots of inspiration to share.

In his work, Adam finds what motivates him is the compassion he has for saving our planet and creating a happy and safe space for everyone. With that in mind, Adam chooses to use trash as his main medium. He uses thrown away items, canvas, random objects, paint, etc. with hopes to prove there truly is beauty in everything. Adam provides a service to our planet in recycling what he collects by cleaning up the areas he walks through.

Most recently, Adam has been exploring with using layered acrylic and styrofoam. He is excited to work towards creating an art-based event for Earth Day to help remind others to focus on cleaning up Cape Fear. Keep an eye out for more information on how Adam plans to bring this idea to life.

Our 17th artist spotlight goes out to the talented illustrator Colin Russell from Other Worlds Inkwork. Colin is currently working out of his home in Columbus, OH were he lives with his wife and dogs. Colin is known for his pen & ink and digital illustrations done with bold lines. He has been drawing for most of his life but really got into spending time on it in 2017-2018. You can find Colin and his work on instagram and tiktok or on their etsy at ( https://www.etsy.com/shop/otherworldsink?load_webview=1&bid=lhiwFfLRNu-D8Ym-nMhtFFZoNEca ).

In his work, Colin finds his inspiration comes from a combination of nature and imagination. He enjoys taking plants, animals, or astronomy features and combining them with some mythology, dream he had, or a monster from a story to make something new. He also likes to work with a lot of mental health imagery in an attempt to show what it feels like inside someone’s head. Colin finds motivation from his own desire to stay busy. He says he “looks at art like a puzzle, so there’s a lot of challenging myself with 'how can I bring this idea to life?'”
Colin would encourage everyone to find time to be creative. One piece of advice Colin would give to other aspiring creatives is to “Keep working, don’t undervalue yourself, and take breaks! Drawing/creating every day is a huge part of building skills, but taking breaks when you’re tired or feeling creatively blocked can be equally important to your mental health and creative skills.”

Recently, Colin has completed his fourth October drawing challenge, completing one drawing for each day in the month. Since then, he has been working on custom pieces for clients to use as tattoo designs, framed prints, or for their small businesses. For the next little while, he will be working on commissioned pieces and taking some time to create some things for himself this year! Make sure you follow his account to see what he creates next.

11/22/2022

We are so excited to announce as our newest gallery artist.

Casey Dupree is a visual artist based out of Raleigh, NC. Casey attended Appalachian State University, where he studied photography, printmaking, and art history. He graduated in 2006 with a BFA in Studio Art. He later lived in Wilmington, NC where he was part of a thriving art community. His work is vibrant and eclectic. He draws on themes from iconic imagery, architecture, nature, and human consciousness to create work that pushes viewers to deeper levels within themselves. Casey's visionary art plays at the ultimate tug-of-war between past and future, love and violence, culture and chaos. His work is a vast collection of various styles and mediums, and continues to grow.

Creating art is a visceral experience that reinvigorates me. Starting a painting is the best part. sounds and colors dance onto the canvas. Inspiration strikes like lightning. And then I wake up from a beautiful dream and sit down and try to make sense of the mess I’ve created. I have to painstakingly edit and rework lines and entire compositions to try to bend the reality of a piece back into line with my original vision. I battle with my own indecisions and desire to compromise to resolve a cohesive and engaging image. Painting is my way to explore the world around me and express to others, experiences that I have no words for. I love inspiring others to make and enjoy all types of art, and my life would be much less complete without it.

To celebrate Casey and his art joining us we will be doing a giveaway of a 16” x 20” pearl fine art paper print of his "Mayan Mysteries". Link in our bio to sign up for a chance to win!

10/19/2022

Our 16th artist spotlight is painter Thomas Contino. Thomas is known for his acrylic paintings where he explores layering and the many different processes acrylics can achieve. He has been painting for about 10 years now and is currently working out of Alexandria Bay, NY to be closer to where his rock band rehearses and plays. You can find Thomas and his work here on Instagram , on his websites at (www.prismatictextile.com), and on TikTok .

In his work, Thomas is inspired mostly by the way that art can be a window into the human mind, heart, and soul. It can really help people to understand themselves and others more completely. Thomas says that “a piece of art is really a reflection of the world around it." This is why, in his work, Thomas likes to create an artistic center around his inspiration and connecting with people and/or ideas. His art is a way to share his point of view and to understand that point of view more clearly.

Thomas’s most recent project is a series of paintings called The Prismatic Textiles project. These paintings are multifaceted creations which speak in a multitude of ways. They are all interconnected in composition and various themes, and each one has a distinct character. The style could be described as combining geometric forms with organic expression, rich textures, deep colorspaces, interwoven with imaginary landscapes, architecture, and technological imaginations. The idea is that each painting functions as a sort of space for the viewer to explore in their own way. He recently dedicated an entire room to showing these paintings at an open studio event. If your looking for a chance to see Thomas and his work, he has an upcoming show with the North Country Arts Council in Watertown, NY at the Dulles State Office building. It’s a yearly juried show which features local and regional artists. The show will open on Friday, October 28th with a reception and awards ceremony.

10/11/2022

Our 15th artist spotlight is artist Chance Losher. Chance has been creating for about 14 years now and is known for his colorful mixed media artwork that he normally works on live at events. You can find Chance and his work on his website (www.professorrainbow.com ) and here on instagram .rainbow . Chance is currently based out of Knoxville, TN. He says his current living space is too small to really work out of which really does hamper his creative inspiration. This, however, encourages Chance to get out and do live art at as many concerts, markets, and festivals as he can.In his words, "If I didn't have those outlets my creative output would be severely impacted."

In his work, Chance is greatly inspired by music, nature, and video games/Dungeons and Dragons. He also finds inspiration in combining different mediums. Chance says “screen printing is the basis of almost all my work, as that is what my degree is in, but I incorporate a mixed media style approach to most of my pieces, combining elements of screen printing, watercolor/gouache, hi-liters, markers, and metallic inks.”  In his work, what motivates Chance to create is really just a love of the process. He sets up at a lot of concerts and festivals doing live art, and the performance aspect is such an exciting yet nervous feeling that really helps him to get the adrenaline and creative juices flowing.

Most recently, Chance ended the summer festival portion of his year. Now, he is working on finishing up a handful of pieces from those events. Chance has also been doing some design work for a few bands. He has been focusing on doing logos, album art, and shirt designs. He says he can't reveal those projects right now, but that those announcements will happen on his social media in the coming weeks. So, keep an eye out! If you're looking for an opportunity to see Chance and his work, he has a few live art events lined up in Knoxville in October.

Our 11th artist spotlight goes out to artist Alice Holleman. Alice is known for her beautiful  illustrations done in traditional watercolor, gouache and ink. You can find Alice and her work on all platforms or on her website ( www.aliceholleman.com). Alice is currently living in Raleigh, North Carolina where she is working out of her home studio.

Allice has been creating since she was a kid. Ever since she can remember, she says she wanted to be an artist. She started chasing that dream professionally when she graduated from undergrad in 2013. Alice says her ”favorite medium is traditional watercolor, gouache and ink. I love the movements you can create.”  In her work, Alice is most inspired by literature, nature and her relationships.  In her studio, Alice has set up her plants to fill her space and mind with inspiration. Allice says she feels that nature “lets her feel at ease to think. “

Alice says art is all she's ever done. Creating has always helped to center her. She would recommend everyone give art a go, and her best advice to new creatives is to “keep a sketchbook on you and draw! Draw for the sake of drawing, not with the intentions of making your  masterpiece. We put a lot of pressure on ourselves, so loosen up in a sketchbook”.

Most recently Alice has worked on completing a mural in Knoxville, Tennessee of a pizza for “Hole in the Wall Pizza”.  If you're looking for a chance to see Alice and her work in person, you can catch her showinging her work throughout October at Pittsburgh Zinefest, Durham Zin Machine and Queen City Zinefest!

Our 10th artist spotlight goes out to the talented Stephen Rullo. You can find him and his work here on instagram , on facebook Stephen Rullo Art, and on their website StephenRulloArt.com. Stephen is most known for his paintings done with a combination of acrylic, spray paint, markers, and water. Stephen is currently working out of Myrtle Beach. He finds joy and inspiration from “the positivity within community and my family. With all the love we share, it helps keep my heart and mind open.”

Stephen has been creating for as long as he can remember. He says he was “having visions in the womb and has been consciously doing art and graffiti since the 5th grade at age 10.” In his work, Stephen finds consistent motivation through his “passion to share something new that hasn’t previously existed.” Adding designs or squiggles has an integral, different place in every medium. Stephen is inspired mostly by love. He says “ it can be found within all things. Through friends, nature, color, and the excitement to create something new to enjoy.” Stephen encourages all creatives to always follow their heart. He says “If you’re doing what you love and what’s fun to you, it will reflect and others will resonate with it. Finding the joy in the creative process and not just the end result has been a newfound enjoyment as well. There is so much beauty and gratitude to be had in the present moment, and it all starts with self and a positive outlook.”

Most recently, Stephen just produced 5’x7’ blankets with his artwork printed on them. He said he has “really enjoyed making limited editions of my work on different mediums. It really helps me stay focused on the new projects and endeavors paving the way for anew.” If you’re looking for a chance to see Stephen and his work, he will be vending USDGC (the United States Disc Golf Championship) in Rock Hill Oct 5-9. There, he will be working on a 4-way collaborative mural as well as vending and creating an art space at a family friendly event.

Our 9th artist spotlight goes out to painter Kevin Daly. You can find him and his work on their website Artbykeb.com, here on Instagram or on Facebook . Kevin has been painting for 5 years now and is currently working out of his home studio in Breckenridge, Colorado.

Kevin is known for his oil and acrylic paintings on canvas. He started out working primarily using stencils and spray paint combined with acrylic and still loves to play with that blend. Kevin finds it important to explore in his work and always wants to remind other artists to never pigeonhole themselves into one direction. In his work, Kevin is heavily inspired by emotion. He says “many of the ideas for my works are inspired by emotions driven by current events/issues or places I've been. That emotion can range from joy and wonder to sadness and anger.” He is also greatly motivated to create, express, and share these emotions. He says “In creating the work, I am hoping to elicit an emotion from the viewer. It may not even be the same emotion that motivated the work.”

Most recently, Kevin has finished a painting called "The Odd Bird" which is “a statement about diversity and how each of us is unique even when at first glance we may seem the same.”  Kevin has been focusing on using shadows and light against a dark background to try and create dynamics. If you’re looking for a chance to see Kevin and his work, he will be participating in Silverthorne's First Friday event on the August Art Stroll.

07/26/2022

Our 8th artist spotlight is the wonderful fiber artist Libby Hayslette. You can find her on Instagram and on her page Libby Reynolds Studio. Libby studied art at UNC Charlotte and is currently working out of Charlotte, NC where she works out of her guest room/art studio. Throughout her portfolio, the overarching concepts lean into comfort and environment. Libby says creating works out of her home provides her comfort and helps her to construct pieces naturally and with intention

Libby has been an artist for as long as she can remember. What’s kept her attached has been the never-ending learning process. It started with drawing, evolved to painting and hand lettering (which she still does), and then led her to her current medium of fibers. Libby says “fibers became my primary medium intuitively.” During lockdown, she taught herself how to weave using a piece of cardboard and some yarn that she had on hand. That’s since evolved into multiple looms, macrame pieces, and soon, she’s going to start rug tufting. She said she loved teaching herself the process while evolving and improving along the way. In her work, Libby is most inspired by nature and humanity. It seems really basic, but the connection between human emotion and environment is something she said she has been influenced by for a long time. Libby says “It’s why I find myself running to the mountains or the ocean when I really need to think things through.” Libby is moved to create by the excitement she gets about her materials. If she finds a wool or yarn that inspires a piece, she says she has to use it immediately. Another thing that motivates her is continuously having a few projects going at once.

On Libby's tufting frame currently, she has a fried egg punch needle piece started. On her looms, she currently has two pieces in progress for two separate baby nurseries. Libby's most recently completed series is called "Color Theory". It is a rainbow weaving series of 6 for an event that was displayed at the Mint Museum back in early March ( has the pieces still available for purchase). That one was a passion project inspired entirely by the materials.
