Tfw golden hour hits just right and you threw a pot bigger than the size of your head ☀️

Potters, what’s the largest amount of clay you’ve ever tried throwing with? This pot was made using about 10lbs or so, but the most I’ve ever tried throwing is 17lbs! I can’t wait to work my way up to 50lbs at once this year 🤩

✨January’s Full Package Independent Studio Time is now LIVE! ✨

Thank y’all for your patience while I reorganized some things at the studio! If you’re a current or previous wheel series student through the studio, you’re eligible to sign up for either of the monthly Independent Studio packages. This is perfect for folks who want to keep practicing on their own, but don’t have their own equipment at home or want to make pots alongside other aspiring makers.

Accessibility has always been incredibly important to me, and with options as low as $45/month, I’m proud to say that this cozy space is the most affordable studio option in town. Working with clay has been a life-changing creative outlet for me, and I hope it can delight many others just as much 💛

Thank you all for being here and for being you. I’m grateful beyond words to be able to share this space with you.

I bisqued this pie plate last week, and it’ll get glazed this week. It’s a speckled white clay, and I’m still deciding how I want to glaze it. Any color suggestions?

Howdy! Here are some important dates and things to note for the studio for the beginning of the year:

✨ Full Independent Studio Time monthly packages should *hopefully* reopen by January 9 with plenty of room for returning members. If your hands are itching to get messy in the meantime, I have à la carte studio time available (no shelf and no firings, but you can use the studio).

✨ New February classes will go live January 25 at 12pm 🎉

✨ Kiln Rental services should *hopefully* reopen on January 25 for February. I’m still getting caught up from the last couple of months, but we should be all set by then. If not, then Kiln Rental services will have to be paused indefinitely until I can afford to by a second kiln.

✨ I am not currently taking wholesale orders or custom commissions aside from recurring ones with some of the folks in . I am SO thankful y’all enjoy my work, but unfortunately, there just aren’t enough hours in a day to add more custom projects, and I’m hoping to rest a little more this year. I’d be happy to refer you to other production potters who may be interested though!

✨ Online restocks are currently scheduled to happen twice per year. This could change if I can hire on more help, but for now, this is all I can promise. I will announce the first one for 2023 in advance, and I hope you all enjoy what I’ll make for it!

✨ I am still getting caught up on emails and messages from being out. If you haven’t heard from me, I have either not made it to your message yet or it somehow wound up in my spam. If your question cannot be answered by my FAQs page or other relevant pages, please feel free to send me another message!

✨ If you took a class through my studio before 11/1/22, please come pick up your pots before 2/1/23. Otherwise, any leftover pots will be donated. Going forward, all pots must be picked up within 1 month of receiving the pickup email or they will be removed from the studio.

✨ I am currently closed on Sundays and Mondays, and I will not make exceptions unless there’s a class scheduled. I deeply apologize for any inconvenience, but I will be happy to see you during normal open hours :)

Thank you for reading! 💕

✨2022 Social Media Recap✨

These are the posts that had the highest reach this year! (Image posts on the first slide, Reels on the second.) I’m so happy my lil account reached so many people (over 1 million of you, in fact!), inspiring and delighting folks with my work.

Thank you all so much for being here and helping make my dreams come true. Here’s to even more growth and good vibes next year! 💛🎉

There’s something liberating about creating raku vessels. Knowing there’s a higher chance they won’t survive than usual, I allow myself to be a little more carefree with the forms and glazing, just making whatever my hands decide to make. And each time, I’m extra delighted with what emerges, as I had no expectations for it to begin with.

I still have some of these beauties in various shapes and colors for sale in the studio. Would you be interested in an Instagram story sale to see what’s on the shelves?

Let’s talk about rest as a maker 💛

R-E-S-T. That short, four-letter word that seems so elusive to me (and I’m sure many other makers). It’s a small word that doesn’t take up much space, and can reflect the little amount of room we so often leave for it.

Sometimes it can feel like an endless cycle of planning, creating, vending, selling, meeting deadlines, and so on as a maker. And in these seasons of continuous work, it can be hard to allow oneself times of rest (especially around the holidays). But it’s so extremely important to carve out those times BEFORE burning out.

We need opportunities to unwind and reset. To breathe and attune to the needs of our bodies, minds, and souls. To spend time with those who love us. To enjoy life in its simplest form.

So a part of my resolution in 2023 is to make space for rest. To take Mondays truly off from work every week and maybe even take a mental health day every now and again. Because when we rest, we renew.

If you know a maker, give them a hug, a well wish, and some grace.

What are some things or activities (or lack thereof) that make you feel rested? We can all help each other find new ways to reset 💛

What a year 2022 has been! I’m so grateful to have been blessed beyond my wildest hopes this year after the roughest season of my life. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to pursue what I love, for sharing my joy with me, for growing with me, and for enveloping me in such a caring and supportive community of in-person and online friends this year. May 2023 be filled with so much happiness and success for all of us, and that our light only multiplies 💛

Some highlights of the year:

💛 I went full-time with my business January 2022, and it flourished in beyond my expectations.
💛 I had the pleasure to meet and teach hundreds of students the ways of clay.
💛 I got to celebrate one whole year operating as a community pottery studio, and I had the honor to design some tattoos with to celebrate it.
💛 I was featured on several of my favorite ceramic companies’ pages:
💛 I brought on three amazing ladies to help lead fun and accessible pottery classes out of the studio every day of the week.
💛 I hosted three successful and fun makers markets out of .
💛 I got married to the love of my life and made my first set of ceramic wedding favors.
💛 I had the pleasure of sharing a studio with some amazing women:
💛 I had my first viral post, reaching almost half a million people in less than 48 hours.

And so much more. Thank you all for being here, for showing up, and for being you. I appreciate you more than words can express, and I can’t wait to see you in the studio in the new year 💛

Glazing days can take a lot out of ya 😅

I’ve been going non-stop since I got back from my honeymoon/COVID combo, and it’s finally caught up to me. The studio will be closed today (12/21) to give me a chance to rest a little bit. I’ll see some of you lovely folks on Thursday and Friday this week, then I’ll close for a few days for Christmas.

If you’re waiting for pieces from a workshop you’ve taken with me, please wait for an email saying that they’re ready for pickup (and please check your spam folders as well). Getting sick put me behind on schedule more than anticipated, but we’re getting there! Thank you all for your patience and understanding 💛

There were so many beautiful pots that came from Sunday’s x planter painting workshop! We’re constantly amazed by how creative people get in these classes. Here are just a few of the lovely creations from our last class ➡️

All the pots were handmade by and painted by participants, so it was the perfect collab for some of the plants to call home.

Would you like to see more painting workshops?

Yesterday’s planter painting + live wheel throwing demo workshop at was a dream! Thank you to everyone who came out to participate! Swipe to see the funky planters I made ➡️

The Artísta tabletop pottery wheel I used for the class is an awesome little piece of equipment. At just 26lbs (without the optional legs and foot pedal—those are a few more pounds), it’s completely portable, making it perfect for creating on-the-go.

It has a 25lb centering capacity, so it’s not as strong as your standard pottery wheel, but it’s perfect for smaller projects or spaces with limited room. Sitting at under $600, this is one of the most affordable wheels on the market (don’t buy your wheels on Amazon, y’all).

If you have any questions, let me know in the comments!

Let’s talk a little bit about making planter drainage holes! 🪴

There are two main ways I make drainage holes in my pots:

1. Throwing my vessel normally with a flat bottom, then trimming and cutting a hole during the leather-hard stage.

2. Including the hole when I’m throwing by pushing my fingers all the way to the wheel-head after centering to make a hole, then raising them up about 1/2” or so when opening the bottom to create the flat bottom around it (as shown here).

If you’re just including one drainage hole in the center, I honestly prefer the second method. It makes the holes smooth and round, I don’t have to worry as much about my pots drying a little too quickly, and I can easily tell how thick my bottom is by the depth of the hole.

However, if you want multiple drainage holes or want to put them on the sides of the bottom, I tend to go with the first method. Which method is your favorite?

These planters were made with square bats, which helped me throw thinner without warping the shapes of the pots when I moved them.

Teaching is such a rewarding experience. I don’t particularly love doing the same thing over and over again as production work, so it’s the perfect opportunity to experiment with forms or make fun creations while sharing new skills with my students. It also allows me to cross mediums with other talented artists, such as , to bring my community fun and interesting workshops. I love watching people grow, create, and relish in their newfound passion.

So thank you to all the folks who have engaged with my work and my studio for helping me be here, and thank you to folks like and for having the supplies and teams to make this place possible. You are all wonderful and I’m so grateful for you.

Thank you for being you 💛
