Thinking about the river a lot this week.
I am utterly heartbroken by the devastation in parts of Appalachia as a result of hurricane helene. I have been a big fan of Asheville for years- traveling there to eat, see good music, learn about herbal medicine, and buy clay supplies from Highwater, like so many other potters in the area. My partner and I recently explored the small town of Lansing, NC. I spent time exploring around Boone, NC in college. The mountains of Western North Carolina are one of the first places I remember exploring and finding my true self as a person in my early 20s. That region shaped me in ways I cannot describe.
I spent the summer jumping in the river in small towns closer to my home, most of which have also suffered at the hands of this epic rainfall and resulting flooding.
