We’re thrilled to welcome the interns in the fifth year of our Summer Arts & Museums Immersion Program (SAMIP)!
🖼️😎🐬🏖️☀️
This summer, 13 Williams College students will be working here at WCMA, The Clark, MASS MoCA, and Gary Lichtenstein Editions. Their work spans a wide range of departments, including curatorial, communications, art handling, public programs, publications, and more.

The first two days consisted of an orientation across the sites to meet professionals working on various projects, followed by a welcome party before beginning their first day on job on Thursday.

Stay tuned to see more of their work throughout their summer. We can’t wait to see what they do!

Look what we’ve been up to 👀

As we enter the summer season and welcome alumni back to campus this weekend here at Williams College, check out the progress we have made on our new home 🛠

Now that the mass timber frame is complete, we are working on the facade, including the glass curtain wall and masonry cladding around the building as well as the roof structure, where trusses are being installed to prepare for the installation of the metal shingles this summer 🌞

Curious about this phase of the project? Join us at 6 p.m. Monday, June 29, at the Williams Inn for our next community forum, where members of the team from SOLID OBJECTIVES IDENBURG LIU, Consigli Construction Co., Inc, Skanska USA | Construction & Development and others will share information about the exterior and the roof as we continue to move toward our fall 2027 opening 👏

After the talk, everyone is invited to sign their name on an actual shingle—an opportunity to immortalize your participation in this exciting chapter in WCMA’s history 🔥

See you on the 29th 😊

As we close in on commencement here at , we wanted to take one last opportunity to thank the Class of 2026 for its deep and meaningful engagement with WCMA 😍

Whether it was borrowing WALLS art, or working with us throughout the academic year or summer as an intern, or visiting for a class in Object Lab or our Rose Study Gallery, we hope we have planted the seed for growing meaninful connections with art wherever life takes you after Williams 💜

Here’s one last glance of how a member of the Class of 2026 engaged with our collection this spring: Anagha Purohit worked on an Art History Independent Study exploring Mughal court culture and art, advised by Professor Mumtaz. This project explored two border fragments from imperial Mughal albums in the WCMA collection and sought to contextualize their (art) historical qualities: Where on an album page might they have been? What type of image might they have surrounded? How have these fragments arrived to the collection? Her work culminated in a research colloquium in the Rose Study Gallery, where she suggested a later dating of the works—as Shah Jahani, rather than Jahangiri fragments—and added to the comparative images used to situate the fragments.

Congratulations to Anagha and the entire graduating Class of 2026 🎉

Have you seen the 2026 senior studio art exhibition “If Not Now, When!” yet?

These people all have—including babies from the Williams Children’s Center (coming to see the work of one of their moms, featuring photographs of one of the babies 🥺), plenty of Williams College students, and WCMA visitors alike!

We’re open the rest of the week 9 to 5 and then special hours of 11-3 on Saturday, June 6, for one last chance to see the show—comprising work by 19 graduating seniors—before it closes (and WE close for three weeks while we install Object Lab Fall 2026, opening June 29 🔥).

See you at the museum 😊

Amazing news 🎉

We have selected artist Kelly Akashi to create a site-specific artwork on the grounds of our new building, set to open in the fall of 2027!

The commissioned artwork will be installed in the east meadows, facing toward the Williams College campus. Akashi will visit Williams throughout 2026 to collaborate with the building’s architects Solid Objectives and Perry Dean Rogers and landscape architects Reed Hilderbrand and meet with the campus community.

“I'm looking forward to developing my new sculptures over this next year in close dialogue with the wooded and diverse landscape and the new building's design,” Akashi said. “The project centers on works that are at once botanical, geological, and sculptural. Their placement and scale invite museum visitors to create new relationships with the forests and plants in their daily environment. I’m excited to share more as the work begins.”
