Blessed feast of St Moses the Ethiopian!
I made this family set a few years ago. It was a very interesting project-
St Moses is their family patron and each household chose an icon as template for their own home in this group commission.

Hand painted acrylic on wood panels.
I love how the different icons teach us different parts of his life story.

Finishing up one of my favorite projects! As a teacher/mom I really like the visual vocabulary system built into the Antiochian Sunday School program!
Each year I enjoy making the art for their Anchor Word posters. The images are available in color and black &white for kids to color!

This is the plan for Advanced Art in Upper elementary school at St. Raphael School I am adding more practice with details- facial features and hands as well as compass practice with opportunities to use imitation gold foil in these designs to become accustomed to the application process. Each semester will have a few small practice lessons and one bigger project (Angel, Good sheppard) ending with our icon workshop with the angel. The last few weeks will be set aside for a patron saint project so that our icon workshop can go at the students' pace without running out of class meetings.
If you know someone who might be interested please share! There are still a few seats available, the class meets at 1pm this year. If you want to see student examples, i share those periodically here on my page (just art no students) so you can see examples of what has been made in past years. This will be the third year for this advanced class.

One of my other hats! I teach online for St. Raphael School and this is some elementary student work!
The kids are wonderful. We talk about saints, places saints lived, famous historic artists and we practice skills to improve their art and let them make beautiful things💗

Here are a few photos of Upper Elementary student artwork from my online class with St. Raphael School every year we end with the icon workshop. This year we learned about St Agatha (and next year will be a man). We started with Lent and finished them up a couple of weeks after Pascha break. They worked diligently, carefully, and made beautiful choices. You can see we looked at a variety of icons, and discussed appropriate colors and what they tell us about the saint.
We walk through the whole process, from looking at icons, drawing, and painting. I want them to gain a deeper appreciation for the amount of time and love that goes into each handmade icon around them.
To build the skills needed for this project, you can see a few things they made-
St Nicholas with pastel - practice drawing a face, something we repeat
