In just over a week, CTL welcomes you to the regional premiere of Come From Away. Its remarkable true story of 7,000 passengers stranded in Gander, Newfoundland, and the small community that welcomed them with open arms.

In the aftermath of one of the darkest moments in our history, something extraordinary happened.

Strangers became neighbors.
Doors opened.
Communities came together.
And a story of kindness emerged.

✈️ BASED ON A TRUE STORY...

On September 11, 2001, thousands of people were in the air, traveling to destinations around the world, unaware of the tragedy unfolding around them.

Following the attacks in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania, the United States closed its airspace. 38 planes carrying nearly 7,000 passengers were diverted to Gander, Newfoundland.

They arrived carrying fear, uncertainty, and one heartbreaking question:

“What happens now?”

The people of Gander didn't have an answer.

But they had something else.

They had open doors.
They had warm meals.
They had spare beds.
They had phones to call home.
They had compassion.

And they made room for everyone.

For several extraordinary days, complete strangers became neighbors. Communities opened their doors. People who had never met before cared for one another simply because they could.

In a moment when the world had witnessed the worst of humanity, a small town showed us the very best of what being human can be.

That is the true story behind Come From Away.

Twenty-five years later, the story of what happened in Gander still resonates. Not because the tragedy has faded, but because the kindness that emerged from it continues to remind us what we're capable of in the face of unimaginable circumstances.

This September, CTL will bring the regional premiere of Come From Away to our stage as the opening production of our 50th Season, with performances surrounding the 25th anniversary of September 11.

At a time when we remember one of the darkest moments in our history, we also have the opportunity to remember a small town that chose to open its doors, its homes, and its hearts.

Amid one of the darkest days in our history, Gander reminded the world that even in the deepest darkness, the light of humanity can still shine.

Last night, the cast of CTL’s inaugural production of Season 50, the regional premiere of Come From Away, gathered for their first read-through and rehearsal.

For the first time, these 12 actors, pit singers and production staff sat around the table together and began bringing this incredible story to life. Over the coming weeks, they’ll take on dozens of characters and transport us to Gander, Newfoundland, where a small community welcomed thousands of stranded airline passengers in the days following September 11, 2001.

It’s a story about kindness when it’s needed most, strangers becoming friends, and the extraordinary things that can happen when people come together.

And what better way to begin CTL’s 50th Season than with a story that celebrates the very best of humanity? ❤️
