Steve A. Prince, The Block
Across The Block, Steve A. Prince brings together music, procession, family, memory, mourning, and everyday life. Figures move between the communal and the intimate, from the marching band and neighborhood scenes to the funerary procession and images of new life.
The work also carries Prince’s recurring engagement with Sankofa: looking back in order to move forward, and understanding history as something carried across generations.
The Block is currently on view at Privé at Saté, Newport News, Virginia, presented by Matney Art Advisory.

Inside Rebecca Shkeyrov’s studio, painting becomes a record of memory, observation, and lived experience.
This reel moves between the artist, the work, and the details that reveal how an image gradually takes form- through material, repetition, revision, and sustained attention.
Shkeyrov’s paintings resist a single interpretation. They invite us to remain with the image, notice what shifts, and consider how personal history and collective memory can occupy the same surface.

Steve A. Prince’s work is grounded in storytelling, history, community, and the lived experience of place.

Across drawing, printmaking, sculpture, and public projects, Prince has developed a visual language that brings personal and collective histories into conversation. His work often moves between the intimate and the monumental, drawing on traditions of narrative art while addressing memory, faith, cultural history, and contemporary life.

Matney Gallery is currently presenting a focused selection of Prince’s work at Saté in Newport News, extending an ongoing relationship with an artist whose practice has also developed through museums, universities, public art, and community-based projects.

On Friday, August 21, from 5–8 PM, the presentation continues with a special event at Privé Lounge, with additional works by Prince on view.

The evening offers an opportunity to encounter the work in person and to consider the broader practice behind it.
