Update on our spiny softshell turtle babies. We have been waiting on the last egg to hatch, and tonight it did. We had 8 eggs, and they have now all hatched.

It’s a very sad day today for us over here at Jurassic Giants. JD our beloved Green Iguana passed away today. He did every reptile show with me for years, and was a huge ambassador for Green Iguanas everywhere. Never did we have a bad experience at a show with JD. He was always good. I got JD years ago from Bobbie Hantz Wheat who had taken excellent care of him from a baby. He was one of my favorite animals here. He was a spoiled guy, and always got his way. I’m not sure how old JD was when i got him, but he was already a big guy, and I had him for years. He had a great personality, and was always gentle around the kids. That’s not always the case with Green Iguanas. He is going to be deeply missed as he was extremely loved. I feel very blessed, and lucky that I got to spend the years that I did with him.

The runt of the litter was just born. It’s barely bigger than the top of my finger. One more egg to hatch, and it will be a 100% success.

So a while back I got a message from Sharon Hague Howey about a Spiny Softshell Turtle nest in Pearland that was about to be destroyed by road construction. She had seen the mother lay the eggs so knew right where it was, and construction was about to start. She had contacted numerous people, but didn’t get any results. Someone gave her my name, and she reached out. The next was technically on Credit Union property. I knew most likely if I asked for permission to dig it up they would most likely say know so I just waited, and went after hours when there was no one to ask. We got the eggs, and I’ve been tending to them daily. Today when I opened up the lid to mist them there they were. 6 so far. Still have 2 more eggs to hatch. Credit goes 100% to Sharon as I don’t think most people would have gone through the effort she did to save these babies. These turtles will remain with us for a couple of months to get a good head start, and then be released back into the wild.

Just went, and picked up these two really nice Zoo Med-Repti Breeze Enclosures along with these two gorgeous male, and female Chameleon’s.
Thank you to Caitlin Donner for trusting me with them, and a huge thank you to my friends over at BOM Reptiles for recommending me.
Just got done cleaning the cages really good, and now to get them all set up. The cages are only pictured together because I was cleaning them out. They are not set up yet, and they will be in separate rooms to minimize stress. The female will be seeing the vet this week as she is thought to possibly be egg-bound.

Our new Veiled Chameleon that we just acquired Tuesday afternoon. This morning was the first time I’ve had a chance to actually get it out, and hold it, and check it out. They aren’t an animal that should be handled to much as they can stress very easy.
