JUSTICE TOGETHER LISTENING SESSION TUES OCT 13 5:30 PM ST JAMES
Justice Together, a local ecumenical coalition of over 40 churches, including St. James the host church for Guild Hall Players, working together to encourage local government and agencies to address pressing social issues. In the past three years, the group called on COMCARE to fully staff 24hr mobile mental crisis units which has resulted in over 2,000 people being helped without ending up in ER or jail. The group called for the City of Wichita to create a free, low-barrier photo ID program that has helped over 2,500 persons gain access to jobs, housing, and services.
Last spring, over 1,200 people came together to call on local officials to address ongoing issues of homelessness, affordable housing, and gun violence. There has been progress made in the city government’s financial response to these problems but JT is continuing to talk with local officials to continue and further their commitment for these issues.
The next step for JT this Fall is the conducting of “listening sessions” that give you the opportunity to find out more about JT, ask questions, express your concerns about these issues, and consider possibly joining with others in this worthy effort. Listening sessions last around an hour and this one will be led by Phil Speary and a JT staff member:
