It was a little over 8 1/2 years ago that I had the crazy idea to take the 48 arcade games in my basement (that’s normal, right?) and open a classic video arcade in Old Town Wichita. I distinctly remember texting Michael Jensen, who I met on FB and can fix literally anything. He had worked on several of my machines and has a superior attention to detail. I told him was I was up too and asked if he was interested in being a part of it. He was in!
Our lease (at the old location) was signed the day before Thanksgiving and we were open December 15th, 2017. It was a balmy 34 degrees. The doors opened at 6pm and we were at capacity (126) in 24 minutes. The line moved, but stayed outside for 3 hours. We never looked back.
We made it through the up and downs of the seasons (busier when it’s reaaaally cold and realllly hot outside), COVID, and alllll of the other things that keep hangin on. The decision was made about about 5 years ago to make the move to a new, larger location. It was a long, challenging build out. Supply chain and permitting issues, and lack of contractor employees drug out the opening of the new location by more than a year past our original expected opening date.
BUT, WE ARE HERE.
Today marks our 3rd year anniversary at the new location. Many things changed when we moved. We added food, a bar, party rooms, a huge patio, our old staff hung around and we added an amazing new staff. We are still excited to welcome YOU to the Arcade.
And we’re not done. We’ve updated our party rooms, our menu and updated the patio - more is coming (see dang contractor reference above). Add’l games are coming too!
Michael and I welcomed you to our original location, and we continue to welcome you to our new spot. Come remember the days gone by while you play Pac-Man, or Mortal Kombat, and grab a slice of pizza 🍕and a beer 🍺 now.
It’s because of all of you, that we have built this amazing, nostalgic place.
