Thinking about a trip to Connecticut to look at a painting of Catherine Carey*. I emailed the facility to make sure the painting wouldn't be out on loan during my visit. Not only will it be there, but if it's in storage they'll pull it out and let me view it in private.

Talk about great customer service! Catherine Carey is believed to have been both the cousin and the half sister of Elizabeth the 1st. I need a visual on her for the next three books in the Stellas series.

*Yes, this is odd. However, as my other hobbies are writing funny ghost stories, figuring out places to put up ceramic tile and classical singing, it's only a little odd. Trust me.

Do you ever get the feeling that you're doing the "happiness" thing wrong?

Have you ever looked at a positive quote printed across an image of a sunset, kitten or baby sloth and thought, "yeah, right. . ."?

If the rainbow and unicorn bit doesn't work for, keep an eye out for my next book:

"Suzy Sunshine Never Worked Here:
Skip all the positivity crap and build a satisfying life anyway"

Warning: This is not a manual for Walter the Whiner or Negative Nancy. This is guidance from my inner Dark Darcy, and she means business.

The standard profanity warnings apply, so, you know, deal with that.

Thanks!

I'm working on a sci fi story about a future society that values women for brains and fertility. Yes, Handmaid's Tale is giving me nightmares. Ideas thus far include compensation and a pension for contributing to genetic diversity. Also, all workplaces are child and mom friendly, so you don't get an office unless you need the privacy. Any ideas? Please comment!

Talking dolls that won't shut up, shadows that are just trying to help, and an irritable ghost stuck in a modern office building are just a few of the characters you'll meet in this collection. Other characters include a criminal facing his victims (living and dead) and a woman trapped in the saf...

My favorite funny about all my books and stories: They're all marketed to young adults because there's no s*x in my books. I tried, folks. I sat down, determined to write a s*x scene, but I couldn't get past the knowledge that my mom was going to read it.

The irony of this is not lost on me.

The next collection of stories is titled Around Darker Corners, or something like that. Subjects include a talking doll that just won't hush, busy professionals who are able to detach their own shadows to tend to projects they don't want to face, and a woman dealing with a driveway full of N***s. Hoping to publish by the end of January, 2018.

I love ghost stories! I love to be a little rattled; a little on edge. These stories started out as an exercise to put some two sentence horror stories into just a few tales, but each of them took on a life of their own. For the most part, they're based on "what if?"

What if a voice belonging to no one told you to hurry up? What if the people that lived in the mirror were your favorite guests? What if the soldiers in the graveyard are looking for some fresh news? What if you only looked away for a second, but it was the wrong second?

You'll meet some interesting people at the Edge.A young nurse waits for her brother to return from the Great War. . .A delightful old woman who needs new shoes (and a bit more) from a young shop clerk. . .Soldiers chatting with their new neighbors as they catch up on the latest news from the worl...

"For Darius" came from a desire to write a story about a little boy. I'd been missing the characters, so late one night I decided to dream up the next storyline and settled on a name before falling asleep. I spent the whole night chasing a little boy around a castle. The whole book landed in one messy heap of storyline threads.

This was also my first experience with characters taking on a life of their own. I was sitting at the table, typing away, when I wrote myself into a corner. One character reached out and pushed the main character, Clayr, toward a difficult conversation. I felt that push move me forward in my chair and actually had to get up and walk around a little; the experience rattled me.

I loved untangling this story.

Life for the Gilcove clan is full and sweet—sometimes a bit over-full. The cabin is starting to look like a library fell on it, the laundry has reached mountainous proportions, and nobody has a spare moment.Since their new building opened, Sukee and Daniel have been working non-stop. Clayr...

"A Family is Woven" grew from a deep desire to flesh out both the characters and the culture of Stellas and Sprytes. In this book, I got to write the details of a wedding and spend some time studying the traditions of a people who need to keep their hands unadorned and unencumbered. I had so much fun putting together the family binding ritual and the traditions of amber and pearls.

My sister and I screwed up the whole arrangement, but we were only trying to help.Deals had been made, and a bargain had been struck. Peter had an agreement with the Old Ones that he would be allowed to live long enough to kill Karsten, and once he’d completed that task, he and the other m...

The Stellas Series started out as a classroom assignment. I was supposed to write an abstract for a romance novel; specifically, a Harlequin. I struggled a bit with this, but found the Luna Series. The Luna Series welcomes supernatural creatures and the main relationship in the story couldn't be the romance. Thanks to a blessed lifetime full of amazing siblings, I built a story around two sisters with special powers.

In the Stellas world, humans with five senses are called Quints. Humans with more senses are called Stellas (more on this later). Sprytes are humanoid, but need art and music the way humans need air and water. Sprytes tend to be nomadic and are shunned by both Quints and Stellas alike.

Before I forget, there are also humanoids called Everlastings, who may or may not exist and who live forever.

Clayr Gilcove has quite enough to deal with at the moment. Her animal grooming business is BOOMING, thanks in no small part to skunks, her niece who is BRILLIANT, but way too smart for her own good, and her sister is amazing but flaky. Really, really flaky. Welcome to the world of the Gilcove fam...
