A 5-hour open dance floor is way too long. 🥱⏳

After hours of straight dancing, guest fatigue sets in, the bar crowd thins out, and the energy drains.

Do this ➡️ approve a high-energy 2-hour dance block, instead of a sluggish 5-hour marathon. Let's leave your guests wanting more rather than waiting for the night to finally end.

Your "Must-Play" List might be Killing the Vibe

Handing a DJ a rigid 50-song playlist isn't "setting the mood." It’s paying two grand for a glorified, living-and-breathing AUX cord who occasionally nods along to the beat.
If you wanted a human Spotify crossfader who can’t talk back, you could’ve just duct-taped an iPad to a mic stand and saved yourself a house deposit. 😁😂

The truth! A real DJ’s only actual superpower is reading the room... Mixing, transitions, scratching - that's skill from putting in the work. But that superpower us notice that Uncle Bob is one gin and tonic away from doing the cha cha, or that the bridesmaids are visibly bored by your artisanal indie-folk phase. Locking them into your exact queue strips away the ability to pivot, leaving you with a dead dance floor and a very expensive music sitter.

Treat your DJ like a professional, not an iPod. Give them 5 "absolute must-plays," 5 "do not play under threat of immediate legal action" (looking at you, "Cha Cha Slide"), and a handful of genres you actually enjoy.

Then step away from the booth and let them do the job you’re paying them for.

Side note: if you only talk to your DJ to pay them, something's wrong. Great DJs stay in contact to put you at ease

Unpopular opinion:

You don't need expensive production upgrades, or 500 people, to make a wedding fun. 🤫💡

Social media, and maybe society, says you need fog machines, lasers, and endless props. In reality, guests first care about good food and great music. All the other stuff should compliment those two things-if you must have them.

Some of the best weddings I've been to had High energy not expensive decor. Tip: Invest in a good time with good people.

Unpopular opinion:

Shopping for a DJ by price alone is a trap. 🫣You aren't just buying speakers. You are hiring an emcee to run your timeline, read the room, and keep the party alive. A cheap DJ costs more stress.

Keep it simple: Hire for trust and personality first. If the DJ isn't at least engaging in convo about what you want or what your vibe is - Mid, Mid, Mid, Skip, Skip!!

Unpopular wedding opinion:

Your guests don’t actually care about the color of your napkins or the expensive party favors!! There! I said it....🤫

Over the years of DJing weddings, I’ve watched couples stress over the tiny decor details. (my wife and I did too)
But do you want to know what guests talk about on the car ride home? They talk about how much their feet hurt from dancing, how epic the music transition was from the 90s throwbacks into modern hits. They talk about how they haven't laughed that hard in years, the vibe, and flow of the wedding. 🕺Your timeline, your energy, and the music set the entire vibe for the night. 💃🏻

Everything else is just background noise.
