TLDR; Appreciation post for all da homies!
Wow! It’s been a busy summer. Seriously, thank you to everyone who liked, shared, left a comment, message or text, and purchased art from me. I am new at commissions with any consistency, as they’ve usually been a one-off here and there. So I learned a lot!
2 months ago I asked for a challenge to help me meet $500 and that was definitely surpassed. I’m thankful because you each liked my work enough to trust me to make something meaningful. It also helped me out of a jam!
The good: connecting with community, seeing lots and lots of cute pet photos, doing my best as I go and feeling like a real artist. Real hands-on experience in running commissions while working full-time. I say real artist, because someone once told me I’d never make money with my art.. and I needed to be realistic. So, it really fills me with confidence that that’s not been the truth for a few years now.
The bad(ish): I realized I’m slower with producing art than I advertised— probably because I was so excited to try it out 😆 and that’s ok, but you shouldn’t promise/advert a medium/deadline before ironing it out with the client beforehand. Also trust that people know your work and know you’ll deliver your best, so have less anxiety when things don’t go 💯 to plan, and communicate when needed!
I’ve got 4 more portraits to go, and one bigger project I can’t announce yet. So, more coming soon! After these I will close commissions for a bit, to work on my next exhibition and other projects. So if you have contacted me and we’ve discussed your piece, it’s in the works!
Thanks so much again! ♥️🌻☺️
