🎨 Meet the Artist! 🎨
Tashia Mitchell brings a lively energy, curiosity, and eagerness to experiment to the Envision Arts studio. Her willingness to try new things perfectly reflects the creative spirit of Envision Arts.
After losing most of her sight in a car accident in 2024, Tashia faced a difficult period of adjustment. With the support of her siblings, her children, and plenty of humor, she has continued to discover new ways to express herself and explore all that she is capable of.
Tashia first came to Envision Arts for sculpting classes with Tomas Bustos, where she discovered a love for working with clay. As she puts it, once she put her hands on the clay, she was hooked! In August, she became a member of the Envision Arts program and began attending Open Studio each week, giving her the opportunity to develop her own artistic practice and see where her creativity could take her.
For Tashia, creating is about more than making art. The studio gives her a sense of peace and reminds her of everything she is capable of doing. She describes Envision Arts as a place where she doesn’t have to “put on a mask or an act,” but can simply be herself, enjoy the process, and put a piece of herself into her work.
Tashia’s sculptures draw inspiration from nature and insects, incorporating textures and imagery inspired by trees and other natural elements. Her whimsical creations have a dreamlike quality, with each piece feeling like its own little world. 🌿🐛
Tashia is currently creating new work for the upcoming Envision Arts exhibition at the Epic Recreation Center, opening October 22.
Outside of the studio, Tashia is a student at Dallas College studying to become a mobility and orientation specialist. She hopes to build a career helping others discover greater independence—just as she continues to discover her own.
We’re so excited to see where Tashia’s creativity takes her next!
