General Information

Welcome to the wonderful world of creating and performing music. The benefits of piano study for children are far-reaching developmentally, and can be life-changing. Adults can experience the oy and fulfillment that music study offers. In addition to the technique and skill of piano playing, we will teach all areas of musicianship, including music theory, anal

ysis, ear-training, sight-reading, performance, literature, and history. These concepts will be incorporated into the lessons in a manner appropriate to the age and level of the student. Parents are asked to observe children’s lessons, and encouraged to do so to help verify that the child is correctly following instructions during practice time. Lessons will be given once a week for 30 minutes, and scheduled on Monday and Tuesday evenings, and Thursday and Friday afternoon Tuition will be $20 per lesson, due in advance monthly, at the first lesson of each month. No refunds will be given for missed lessons. If a student must miss a lesson, advance notice is required, and a make-up lesson will be scheduled. You will be expected to arrive on time to each lesson. Advanced and adult students will benefit from a longer lesson format. 45 minute weekly lessons will be offered at the rate of $30 per lesson. Calendar

Fall semester lessons will begin during the first week of September, and continue through December 20. No lessons will be held during the 4th week of November. The spring semester will be January through May. If a lesson falls on a holiday, that lesson will be rescheduled. Music

Students will be required to purchase music books and other resources as required for the lessons. Information on ordering online will be given prior to the initial lesson. Sample copies may be available at the initial lesson if the music has not arrived. The required music may be purchased locally as well. Additional materials will be required as the student progresses, and can be ordered online. Some materials may be given directly to the student, with the price added to the following month’s bill. Practicing

Success in learning to play piano is obviously dependent on the quality and quantity of time dedicated to practicing the instrument. Students will be required to document their practice time. Children are encouraged to be active in cooperating with their parents as they plan their daily schedules. Each student will have practice expectations determined by the teacher and appropriate for their individual needs. Recitals

We will have recital opportunities at the end of each semester, and all students will be required to participate and perform. Dates will be announced well in advance. Opportunities for contests and other performances will also be announced as they are scheduled. Biography

I began taking piano lessons in the second grade in Ft Worth, Texas. That began a lifetime of music study and enjoyment. After high school, I attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, earning a Bachelor of Music, and a Master of Music in Theory and Composition. In 1988, I joined the faculty at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas, teaching applied piano, piano pedagogy, music theory and other related courses for 15 years. I have performed extensively as a soloist and accompanist, directed vocal ensembles, choirs, and instrumental ensembles, and judged many high school and collegiate level music events. I have had many compositions performed by high school, university, and church performing organizations. I have been married to Laurie Lynne Mace since 1985, and we are blessed with three adult children. I believe that music is God-created and given to us to use in His service. I have served churches in Texas and Arizona, and am currently the Minister of Blended Worship at Faith Baptist Church in Wichita Falls.
