** WHAT AN OPENING WEEKEND! **

What a wild, weird, and wonderfully outrageous opening weekend of The Rocky Horror Show! This show reminds us exactly why we say creativity has no age limit and theatre is for ALL!

We couldn't be prouder of this incredible cast and crew of performers ages 50+ who have thrown themselves into every moment of this rehearsal and performance process!

A HUGE thank you to our cast, crew, volunteers, and all of the patrons who joined us this weekend! You've helped make our second Creative Aging Series production one to remember so far!

We'll see you over at the Frankenstein place for two more weekends!

The wait is over, and the castle doors are open! The Rocky Horror Show officially opens TONIGHT!

Our Creative Aging Series cast (yes, EVERYONE on and backstage is 50+!) and crew have been working hard to bring this wild, weird, wonderfully outrageous production to life, and we cannot WAIT to share it with you!

Whether you're a Rocky Horror virgin or you've been doing the Time Warp for decades, we hope you're ready for a night of absolute pleasure!

**DAMMIT, JANET. THE ART IS FOR SALE!**

Ever watched a show at Backdoor and thought, “You know what would look great in my living room? A piece of that set.” No? Well, here's your chance anyway!

Back in 2017, The Rocky Horror Show took over our Main Stage, complete with some AMAZING, larger-than-life, hand-painted artwork inspired by classic horror and sci-fi films!

Nine years later... THEY'RE BAAAAACK! And they've returned to the Main Stage for this year's production!

We're auctioning off SIX original scenic pieces: Frankenstein, the Bride of Frankenstein (who, ironically, is missing one arm), King Kong, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, the Werewolf, and the Alien! These pieces were created for that production by Eric Korger!

PLUS! A brand-new, original TIM CURRY + Backdoor Theatre tribute created for our 2026 production by local artist Dee Hayman!

(If you're coming to the show, you can see it in person. And trust us... THERE IS ACTUAL GLITTER IN TIM'S CORSET!)

** SO...WHAT'S HAPPENIN' NEXT DOOR? **

If you've been to Backdoor in the last six months, you've probably asked that question, and we have, too...many, many times.

On April 1st, part of the building next door collapsed onto Backdoor's property, damaging our parking lot and taking approximately nine spaces out of commission.

Six months later...(gestures broadly outside)

So, since y'all have questions, we have some answers!

1. WHEN IS THE BUILDING COMING DOWN?
We have no idea. Truly. We don't.

Whether the owner moves forward with demolition/rebuilding or the City eventually has to step in for demolition, Backdoor doesn't control the process or timeline.

So... ¯\(ツ)/¯...we dunno!

2. WHY HAVEN'T Y'ALL FIXED THE PARKING LOT?
Because we'd really, REALLY like to only pay to fix it once.

Equipment may still need access to our property. Spending thousands to repair the lot just to potentially tear it up again would be less than ideal and a waste of $$$.

3. WHY CAN'T I PARK THERE? IT LOOKS FINE.
Our little orange cones aren't decoration. They're trying their best!

There's still debris and a partially collapsed building next door. Until we're confident the area is safe, those spaces are staying closed. Please don't move the cones or park there.

4. IS IT SAFE TO COME TO BACKDOOR?
YES! Backdoor is open, and shows are happening! You may have to park a little farther away, but the affected area is outside and blocked off.

5. SURELY INSURANCE COVERS THIS?
One would think!

The property owner has told us he doesn't have insurance on the property. And Backdoor's insurance doesn't cover paved surfaces. Cool cool cool.

We do have a Building Fund, but most of it is earmarked for other projects. Shockingly, "the-building-next-door-messed-up-our-nearly-new-$98,000-parking-lot" wasn't a line item.

We already have an estimate of nearly $20,000 to repair the damaged portion, but we won't know the full extent until everything next door is finished...

6. CAN'T BACKDOOR JUST... DO SOMETHING?
Oh, how we wish. Magic wands are still on back order!

We've called. We've asked questions. We've stayed in touch with the City. We've advocated for our property. We've waited. We've asked more questions. We're pretty sure the City's Code Enforcement Office sighs every time they see our Executive Managing Director calling!

7. AREN'T YOU FRUSTRATED?! I SURE AM!
Yes.

We'll keep asking, working around the mess, and updating our community when we have something new to share.

** WORKSHOP WEEKEND! **

Friday, we welcomed the Leadership Team from Texoma Community Credit Union to Backdoor for an Improv at Work workshop led by our Executive Managing Director, Jessica! Through improv games (and plenty of laughs!), they explored how skills we use onstage - listening, communication, collaboration, adaptability, and trust - can translate to the workplace!

Our Youth Education Director, Hannah, led TWO Youth Audition Workshops - one for younger performers and one for high schoolers! They had the chance to learn, practice, ask questions, and get a little more comfortable with the audition process!

Three different workshops. Three different groups. And a reminder that there are so many ways theatre can bring people together, build confidence, and teach skills that go far beyond the stage!

** ROCKY HORROR - FRONT OF HOUSE **

We're looking for Front of House volunteers to help us welcome audiences, work concessions, usher, and keep things running smoothly throughout the run.

** YOUTH WORKSHOPS AT BACKDOOR! **

There are even more ways for young people to learn, create, and get involved at Backdoor Theatre! We have THREE Youth Workshops coming up, each offering something a little different!

**AUDITION WORKSHOP - Sept. 26th!**
Learn what to expect at an audition, build your confidence, and pick up tips to take into your next one! Open to 5th–12th grade students. | $10/student

**THRILLER DANCE WORKSHOP - Oct. 30th**
Learn the iconic “Thriller” dance and end a fun evening with a performance on the Main Stage! Ages 10+ | $5 (No experience necessary!)

**PRODUCTION ELEMENTS: LIGHTING & SOUND - Nov. 21st**
Go behind the scenes and get hands-on with two of the elements that bring a production to life! Middle and high school students will explore theatrical lighting and sound. $15 includes materials and snacks!

Looking for something new for your child to try? Our Youth Workshops are a fun, low-pressure way to explore theatre, learn new skills, and meet other creative kids!

Space is limited for each workshop! No experience needed!
