Summer Concert chair Charles Bennett here. Wanted to talk to you about something you may not have noticed in the visuals from the recent Patriotic Concert.

At the beginning, Robert York played Aaron Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man. The visuals accompanying it were Yosh Nakamura's mural at the Whittier High Library, Bartholomew Mako's frieze at Hoover School, and Norman Rockwell's Four Freedoms.

Consider the time period 1938 to 1945. During that time,
* New Deal agencies constructed Hoover School and the Whittier High School Auditorium
* FDR gave the Four Freedoms speech
* which Norman Rockwell commemorated in a series of paintings
* Aaron Copland composed Fanfare for the Common Man
* And Yosh Nakamura served in the 442

Extend it a little further, into the 1950s, and you get Yosh teaching at Whittier High and painting that mural.

Save the dates: we've got the Barbecue silent film in October, the Holiday Concert in December and there IS going to be a summer Concert in 2027
