This is Shane Cadman, formerly of the Shannon Center and Whittier College. Many of you had the pleasure of knowing Ann Farmer, particularly if you attended the Friends of the Shannon Center Meet the Authors and Bookfaire events. I’m sad to announce that she passed away yesterday at the age of 88. She was an amazing woman and was loved by many. Per her wishes, there will not be any sort of memorial service. If you wish to remember her, you may make a donation in her memory to any of the following organizations:

Best Friends Animal Society (Utah) best friends.org

Whittier Historical Society whittiermuseum.org

National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts miniatures.org

I am so grateful for the years I was fortunate enough to work with her, and grateful that we were able to share some time together in recent weeks. Rest In Peace Ann. You are already missed.

Today is the one-year anniversary of the passing of the amazing Ruth B. Shannon. I can’t believe it’s been a year already. I think about her every day. She was dearly loved and is dearly missed.

Today was a very special day for me. Back in 2020, I received the Humanitarian Award from the Kama’aina Club of Orange County for my work with and for the Hawaiian community as manager of the Ruth B. Shannon Center for the Performing Arts at Whittier College. Due to the pandemic, I was not able to receive the award back then, but it was presented to me today at their annual luau (which is back after a two-year break). Thanks to inheriting the aloha series from David Palmer, I was able to continue and grow the Shannon Center’s commitment to the Hawaiian community here and around the world. Sadly, I am no longer at the Shannon Center and the aloha series appears to have ended there, but I will forever be grateful for the many friends I made in my 10 years running the venue. The spirit of aloha and ohana runs deep. Mahalo nui loa!
