Folks, we don't usually post anything that doesn't have anything to do with food, but once in a while, we feel compelled to say something, especially when it is that important.
We would like to remind you that we all suffered from Hurricane Matthew's visit to various degrees, but that the next few days and weeks will be especially important to your local businesses.
Many of them have lost all of their inventory. Many of them have not been able to open since last week, either because of the damage, the loss of power, or the lack of goods to sell. And because the roads were cut off (and because they were themselves busy with their own problems), both customers and suppliers stayed away.
By now, their cash flow is seriously compromised, and it will be a while before insurance adjusters can come in and their claims be covered - if they are at all, as most people and businesses do not have flood insurance.
If you can afford to do so, now is the time to show your solidarity, not by handing out any money, but by making a special effort to shop, dine and conduct business in your community, and support your local businesses, so that things can get back to normal.
This could mean the difference between recovery or closing down. Yes, for some businesses, it is truly a matter of LIFE or DEATH.
This downtown was showing great signs of improvements before the hurricane, do not let Matthew send it back to the dark ages. We survived the hurricane, but we still need to beat it, so come out and be an active part of your community.
Thank you, and please share.
