On Saturday, we had the joy of welcoming community members back into our 91 Madison building in Whitesburg for the first time since the July 2022 floods.
As guests explored our William “Pictureman” Mullins Photography exhibit and watched Strings, Nik Lee’s short film about our Appalshop Archive’s post-flood recovery, tears were shed, memories were shared, and reflections on our Appalachian history filled the space. We’re deeply grateful to Sharayah Cochran and Terri Weissman for helping bring this exhibit to life!
The “Pictureman” Mullins exhibit will soon be available for public viewing once again at the Harry M. Caudill Memorial Library in downtown Whitesburg. We hope you’ll take the opportunity to visit and experience this remarkable collection, which captures life in Southwest Virginia and Eastern Kentucky from the 1930s through the 1960s through the lens of one of our own.
