For the Georgia's O'Keeffe Museum's "Making a Life" and "Around the World with O'Keeffe" exhibits, Distant Mountain has curated a special collection of kimonos that reflect her personal style, available for purchase at the museum shops in Santa Fe and Abiquiu.

The mid-20th century witnessed the dawn of modern commercial aviation. With this increased access to international travel, O'Keeffe began globe-trotting in the late 1950s and early 1960s, visiting almost 50 countries across nearly every continent.

Learn more about O’Keeffe’s travels through objects she collected in the Museum’s latest exhibit, ‘Around the World with O’Keeffe,’ open only at the O'Keeffe Welcome Center in Abiquiú.

Georgia's O'keeffe owned several kimonos and wore them frequently, particularly haori, the short outer kimono. Love this.

For years Westerners have experimented with wearing traditional Japanese clothing like the kimono and jinbei. The results have, at best, been mixed. Let’s just say that it takes a certain type of non-Japanese man or women to wear a kimono without looking out of place. I for one, have never even felt
