Briggs Opera House A Community Arts Center

Briggs Opera House A Community Arts Center The Briggs Opera House is a wonderful place for a cornucopia of community arts and entertainment happenings. Book The Briggs for your next event!

BOH does not handle tickets for events. Please contact event producer. “Having an intimate space like the Briggs Opera House available for community performing-arts events in the Upper Valley is extraordinary,” Margaret Hunton, president of the board of directors for NCCT and stage manager for the new production, said last week. “There is a virtual cornucopia of performing-arts organizations in ou

r region, and many of them don’t have a performance space or even rehearsal space to call home. … Spaces to bring that art to life are vital to the fabric of what makes our community vibrant.”

First look at THE WAVERLY GALLERY by Kenneth Lonergan. Now thru May 24 at Shaker Bridge Theatre

“At its heart the play is about connection, identity, and the enduring support of family.”
- James Kent, Mountain Times

“The Waverly Gallery” will tug at the audience’s heartstrings as they watch a beloved matriarch slip into the terrifying world of dementia and witness her children try to find a place of love, light, and acceptance during one of their mother’s most trying chapters.”
- Emma Stanton Vermont Standard

“Deftly presents senility as an exaggerated state of the natural human condition… Deeply theatrical and often deeply funny.”
– The New York Times

Gladys, the elderly matriarch of the Green family, has run an art gallery in a small Greenwich Village hotel for many years. The management wants to replace her less-than-thriving gallery with a coffee shop. Always irascible but now increasingly erratic, Gladys is a cause of concern to her daughter, her son-in-law, and her grandson, from whose point of view this poignant memory play is told. A wacky and heartrending look at the effect of senility on a family.

Nineteen years later, the play premiered on Broadway, earning a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Revival of a Play and a Tony Award for 86-year-old leading actress Elaine May.

Up Next: Shaker Bridge Theatre presents SEMINAR by Theresa Rebeck. Directed by Kent Burnham. Featuring: Brooke Friday, Xavier Markey-Smith, Ben Pereira, Tim Rush, Leah Schwartz. March 26 - April 12

Four aspiring young novelists sign up for private writing classes with Leonard, an international literary figure. Under his recklessly brilliant and unorthodox instruction, some thrive and others flounder, alliances are made and broken, s*x is used as a weapon, and hearts are unmoored. The wordplay is not the only thing that turns vicious as innocence collides with experience in this biting comedy.

Seminar by Theresa Rebeck, Pulitzer Prize Nominee, most Broadway-produced female playwright, and director of last season's workshop presentation of Samantha Inside Out.

“Big laughs... an authentic rush of pleasure.”
– The New York Times

“Theresa Rebeck hits plenty of bull’s-eyes, so sit back and enjoy the ride.”
– New York Post
