Westchester Community Orchestra

Westchester Community Orchestra The Westchester Community Orchestra (WCO) is the county's 15-year old audition-free orchestra. We are people with all different types of musical experiences.

The Westchester Amateur Musicians Orchestra (WAMO!) burst on the artistic scene in 2009 through the efforts of our founder, violinist Barbara Rosenthal. A spinoff formed by Norm Weiss, the Dixieland Express Jazz Band, soon followed. The Orchestra gives six concerts/year throughout our Westchester communities. Although our audiences are generally adults, we are especially child-friendly providing e

xposure to both classical and Dixieland Jazz music in a fun setting. The Orchestra and the Jazz Band perform at Public Libraries and Senior Residences throughout Westchester. Some played in high school or college, some are adult beginners who’ve only played a few years and others have not touched their instrument in decades. The members come from all walks of life and include students, people actively working in a variety of careers and retired individuals. When we started 9 years ago with 6 musicians our original name was The Really Terrible Orchestra of Westchester. This amusing and quirky name was borrowed from the original Really Terrible Orchestra of Scotland. The name was changed to the Westchester Amateur Musicians Orchestra last year. Although we are nonprofessional musicians, we have a professional conductor, William Eckfeld.

We are back to regular rehearsals and preparing for our 2 upcoming concerts. Of course we adhere to safety recommendations re' Covid-19 precautions.
We've got a great program planned for the concerts including
lots of Beethoven, Mozart and even Bernstein (West Side Story).
We've added many new players and we are still seeking all string
musicians, Oboe, clarinet and bassoons. Remember, we are a no-audition orchestra, friendly and low key. Rehearsals are fun!
