FROM THE FRONT OFFICE & Jamboree President Dave Heath: The Jamboree has lost a long time business associate and family member this past weekend when Barbara Martin Stephens, lost her battle with cancer. She served as an important talent booking agent for the Jamboree while her husband and Jamboree Artist Jimmy Martin was a regular in the early 1960,s. Our prayers and love go out to her many family members and friends.

In 1963, the Wheeling Jamboree continued its long tradition of bringing country, bluegrass, comedy, and live entertainment to audiences from Wheeling, West Virginia, over the powerful airwaves of the old WWVA AM radio. The cast of this era represented the variety that had become a hallmark of the Jamboree, including The Osborne Brothers and Jimmy Brown, George Adams, Skinny Clark, John Corrigan and Crazy Elmer, Roy Scott, the Vandergrift Brothers, Monty Blake, Jimmy Stevens and the New England Country Gentlemen, Jean Marie, and Doug LaValley. The Vandergrift Brothers had joined the Jamboree around 1960 and became regular performers, while Jimmie Stephens is specifically documented as joining the cast in 1963. The Osborne Brothers were already established Jamboree favorites and departed for the Grand Ole Opry that same year. Together, these entertainers reflect an important transitional period in the Jamboree's history, when traditional country and bluegrass remained at the heart of a program that had already entertained generations of listeners.
