Native artist Danielle SeeWalker went to the West Bank this summer for two weeks to make a series of murals with Palestinians.

“The theme of all the murals was this allyship and understanding of Native Americans and Palestinians and shared paralleled history,” SeeWalker said. “First Nations people ... had their land taken. We had food sovereignty taken away from us, language lost. I mean, a lot of the very similar things that my community and ancestors went through, they’re experiencing now.”

Muscogee Creek artist George Alexander found inspiration in the bold colors and relaxed subject of T.C. Cannon's 1973 “Self-Portrait in the Studio.” For his own reimagining, Alexander kept the floral Western shirt but traded Cannon's cowboy boots for Vans sneakers.
