The Plaza Theatre

The Plaza Theatre A regional, iconic performance space as a home for live plays, concerts, special events on Monterey

The Community Theatre of Wharton, a 501(C)3 non-profit organization now renamed the Plaza Theatre, Inc., acquired the abandoned and derelict Plaza Theatre building in the early ’90s. By 1995 the first floor was restored as a venue for live performances. We now produce a regular season of plays and concerts each year as well as special events. Our goal is to give ordinary citizens the chance to par

ticipate in the arts at all levels and to facilitate their personal growth and the growth, health and wellbeing of the community. The Plaza is located on Monterey Square, the original downtown square in Wharton, Texas. Although we are based in Wharton County, the Plaza’s central location and excellent accessibility help us attract audience and performers from throughout the region, including the nearby counties of Victoria, Fort Bend, Matagorda, Colorado, Brazoria, and Jackson.

🌱🎭 A BIG round of applause for El Campo Animal Hospital!

Little Shop of Horrors has officially closed, but before we say goodbye to Seymour, Audrey, and that very hungry plant, we have one more curtain call to make!

Thank you to our generous show underwriter for helping bring this production to the Jeanene D. Merka Stage.

Community theatre happens because community businesses choose to support it. We are incredibly grateful to El Campo Animal Hospital for investing in the arts and helping us bring another fantastic production to downtown Wharton.

πŸ‘ El Campo Animal Hospital, take a bow! And thank you for helping us feed the arts... though perhaps not the plant. πŸͺ΄πŸ˜¬

🎭 Calling Roberson Air Conditioning to the stage for a well-deserved bow! πŸ‘

As the final weekend of our summer musical gets underway, our 2026 summer of shows is coming to a close. And what a summer it’s been!

It all started with our Litefooter Summer Youth Workshop & Productions, presented by Roberson Air Conditioning, giving young performers the chance to learn, grow, make memories, and experience the magic of live theatre.

- Peter Pan JR.
- James and the Giant Peach JR.

Thank you, Roberson Air Conditioning, for being such a tremendous supporter of the Plaza and community theatre in Wharton. Supporters like you help us keep the stage lights on and the next generation stepping into the spotlight. ❀️🎭

And thank you to everyone who made this an incredible summer of youth theatre!
