About two and a half years ago, I wrote my very first song. If you’ve ever been to one of our shows, you’ve heard this story (I feel like I’ve told it about a thousand times now), but just in case you haven’t, I’ll tell it here again.

Its about my grandmothers childhood experience growing up in poverty, she grew up in Hagerstown, MD in the 1940s and her family was dirt poor growing up. They had a really hard time putting food on the table and had to get creative to find ways to make ends meet. Luckily they lived next door to a potato farm, so from a very young age, my grandmother was sent next door to scour the ground looking for little tiny potatoes that had been left out in the field, and that’s one of many ways they survived those hard times.

When I first heard that story it just kind of blew my mind, and I ended up writing a song about it called Tiny Taters.

Earlier this year, my voice teacher Dede Wyland encouraged me to record the song, and helped us navigate the recording process for the first time. I couldn’t be more grateful for her encouragement and assistance (as well as the excellent vocal harmonies she provided on the track!). We worked with Jim Robeson, who is an incredible sound producer, and even got Ira Gitlin on the track playing some excellent banjo alongside our bandmates Liz and Elise. We were also very lucky to have Colinda Blankenship showcase her artistic talent on the album artwork!

We are so excited to announce that we released the track today, and it is now available on streaming platforms!

My grandmother told me when I was a kid that she wanted to write a memoir, which is something she never got around to doing, so it means a lot to formally publish at least one of her stories.

We want to sincerely thank everyone for the kind words throughout the years of us playing this song, we hope you enjoy it!

Looks like a beautiful day tomorrow for some bluegrass at the Homestead!

This Sunday we are playing at one of our favorite venues! Union Mills Homestead is hosting their Music on the Millrace series again and we couldn't be more excited! $10 at the door, 12 and under free! Food, b**r, w**e available for purchase.
