Attention Village Farms residents and Christmas on Victory fans - Our display has been declared a nuisance and will be dark for 2015
Through their attorney (at VF expense), your Board of Directors has threatened legal action against us should we run our display this year. Apparently our Christmas display and the goodwill it has generated for the neighborhood over the years must fly in the face of the new "Branding" they wish to create. You may have noticed a one-liner in the August newsletter's BOD Minutes about "traffic on Victory Ct. (update)". That's all the mention they chose to make public about this. Well, we're taking it public now.
You know how everyone has that "one neighbor" that can never be satisfied with anything, has to poke their nose into everything, and is in general a busy body? Well, we've got one on our cul-de-sac. We also have another neighbor on the cul-de-sac who tried to bribe me last year into not running the show, and then made threats to me about how "it would be a shame if something happened to your display". That's it. Two people. We have a lot more than two neighbors that support us, we can assure you. These two even claim to be Christian (SMG Catholic to be specific) which is laughable. So what do they do? Push the Board, who of course cower, and then their lawyer joins in. We've worked with two previous Boards, both of which have determined that no covenants were being violated by our display. Now this board and their lawyer (Tanner Law Group) dig really deep and stretch the wording and intent of the covenants. Never mind that I can identify at least half a dozen covenant violations within 1/4 mile of our house that neighbors have complained about and the Board has chosen not to enforce. Either enforce all of the covenants or none of them.
There is a meeting on November 11th from 6:00 to 8:00 at the clubhouse for VF residents to view and discuss the subdivision Long Range Plan, which includes subdivision branding. I suggest VF residents let the Board know what they think about the direction they've has already taken. If you can't make that meeting, there's a Board meeting on November 17th from 7:00 to 9:00. Beyond that, you can provide (constructive) feedback to the Board president at [email protected] and the board on general at [email protected].
Through all of this, we'll admit to one thing. We did consider not running the lights this year as it is truly such a big production, we didn't know if we had the energy to do it. Well, the Board made that decision for us.
At this point, we will ensure that videos of our display will remain on Facebook (as long as copyright issues don't block them). We'll also post a link to an alternate site that contain the videos. We want to ensure the videos live on so folks can enjoy the lights as much as we have. We also encourage fans to remember the Make-A-Wish Foundation this Christmas season and continue to provide support and donations. Finally, We also want to thank everyone for their charitable contributions over the years and all the support we've received.
